MELBOURNE, Australia -- Cycling Australia says it will seek a maximum two-year ban for Michael Rogers if the 2004 Athens Olympic bronze medallist and three-time world time trial champion is found guilty of doping. Cheap Kyle Lauletta Jersey . The International Cycling Union said on Wednesday that Rogers tested positive for clenbuterol, which helps build muscle and burn fat, at the Japan Cup on Oct. 20. He has been provisionally suspended. Rogers, who has denied the doping claims, has requested an analysis of his B sample. Interim Cycling Australia chief executive Adrian Anderson says "while we respect Michael Rogers right to defend himself, we will support the maximum sanctions applicable in the event that hes found guilty of doping. For too long, this great sport of cycling has been let down by drug cheats." Womens New York Giants Jerseys .com) - Ryan Miller made 28 saves to record his fifth shutout of the season and second in as many nights as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 on Friday. Cheap New York Giants Jerseys China . PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied after a shaky start. Avonte Maddox Eagles Jersey . They couldnt finish it off, unable to add on runs or stop one of baseballs best hitters when they needed to. Cahill laboured in his second start since returning to the rotation and Miguel Cabrera hit a hope-ending three-run homer in the eighth inning, sending the Diamondbacks to an 11-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. "We have been great about that, no question about it," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of coming back. "They felt us coming and we had a good attitude and put up some good at-bats." Detroit had more productive ones. Austin Jackson had the first one, a three-run double in the fourth inning as the Tigers roughed up Cahill (1-7) for seven runs in four innings. Arizona clawed its way back against Anibal Sanchez (7-4), though, scoring three runs off him in the fifth and two more over the next two innings. With Tigers clinging to a two-run lead with two on and no outs in the seventh inning, Joba Chamberlain replaced Sanchez and needed one pitch to escape a jam he created by Sanchez. That set the stage for Cabrera in the eighth and the Triple Crown winner came through, fouling off a couple of pitches from Matt Stites before hitting his 15th homer off the foul pole in left. Alex Avila had three RBIs and Rajai Davis had three of Detroits 13 hits to improve the best road record in baseball to 30-17. "The hitters, they did their job," Sanchez said. "They give me enough runs to get the win." Sanchez followed up a strong start against Kansas City with a shaky one against Cleveland, allowing four runs in six innings his last start. The right-hander has been good on the road this season and was sharp early against the Diamondbacks with a big lead. That changed in the fifth inning, when Gerado Parra and Martin Prado hit consecutive doubles then Gregorius splashed a two-run homer into the pool in right-centre to cut Detroits lead to 7-3. Parra had a run-scoring single in the sixth inning and David Peralta added another in the seventh to cut Detroits lead to 7-5. Arizona had two on with no outs after that, but Sanchez got Aaron Hill to fly out and Chamberlain induced Paul Goldschmidt into an inning-ending double play on his lone pitch in the inning. Sanchez allowed five runs on 11 hits and struck out four in 6 1-3 innings. "His stuff is good, I just think when hes missed his spots, theyve hit it," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. Cahill had a decent outing after being called up from the minors his last start, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings of a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs. His second start didnt go so well. Avila hit a two-run single off Cahill in the second inning and the Tigers poured it on in the fourth, scoring five runs with the help of an error by Hill at second base. Avila had a sacrifice fly for the only earned run in the inning and Jackson had the big hit, a three-run double that got past left fielder Mark Trumbos diving attempt. Cahill allowed seven runs -- three earned -- on eight hits to remain winless in six starts this season. "Hitting is contagious and they got on a roll," Cahill said. Arizona managed to rally, but Cabrera put the game out of reach with one big swing. NOTES: Tigers RF Torii Hunter was given a day off despite swinging a hot bat. They were giving him a standing ovation just a few minutes later. Thompson turned a Sacramento Kings third-quarter lead into a Golden State Warriors rout all by himself. The sharp-shooting guard set an NBA record for points in a quarter on Friday night, netting 37 of Golden States 41 in the third en route to a 126-101 Warriors blowout win over the Kings. Thompson, who finished with 52 points after departing at the 9:28 mark of the fourth, made all 13 of his shots in the third, with nine of them coming from beyond the arc. He broke George Gervin and Carmelo Anthonys previous mark of 33 points for a quarter. During a 5:25 span of the third, Thompson poured in 19 straight Golden State points and potted five triples during the stretch. He outscored the Kings 37-22 in the period. Thompson finished 16-of-25 from the field overall and was 11-of-15 from long distance. Marreese Speights had 19 points off the bench, while Stephen Curry added 10 points and 11 assists for Golden State, which has won four straight and 12 of its last 13 games. Josh Sweat Jersey. DeMarcus Cousins tallied 28 points and 11 boards to lead the Kings, who have dropped six straight games. After Ben McLemores runner staked Sacramento to a 64-63 edge with 7:33 left in the third, the Warriors closed the stanza on an extended 34-9 run. Thompson poured in 32 of his points during the surge, highlighted by his one-handed alley-oop dunk from Curry to finish a 2-on-1 fastbreak. Golden State was suddenly up 97-73 after three and cruised to the easy victory in the fourth. Earlier, Thompson knocked down a pair of treys as the Warriors raced out to a 24-8 start. Golden State led 34-25 after a quarter of play, but the Kings whittled that gap to 56-51 by halftime. Game Notes Gervin set the original mark in 1978 and Anthony matched him in 2008 ... WATKINS GLEN, N. Cheap Wyatt Teller Jersey .Y. -- Jeff Gordon shouted "Oh, yeah boys! Yoo Hoo!" over his radio, then punched his right arm skyward when he emerged from his No. 24 Chevrolet as his resurgent season continues. Gordon turned a fast lap of 129.466 mph on Saturday to win the pole for the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, edging road racing ace Marcos Ambrose and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson in the second and final round of knockout qualifying. It was Gordons first pole of the season, third at Watkins Glen, and 75th of his stellar career. Just like old times at Watkins Glen International, where Gordon has won four times. And on his son Leos birthday no less. "This year has been phenomenal," said Gordon, whose last pole at the storied road course was 11 years ago. "I wished him a happy birthday this morning and said, All right, Im going to try to get you that pole. "I wasnt real confident in that statement, and now I really cant wait to talk to him." Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch rounded out the top five. AJ Allmendinger was sixth, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Newman. Defending race winner Kyle Busch will start 19th. Just missing the final round of qualifying was five-time Watkins Glen winner Tony Stewart, who will start 13th. Danica Patrick, who crashed in final practice on Friday and will start at the rear of the field, used the session for practice and ran 11 laps. With five races left until the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship begins, the drivers on the cusp of making the 16-driver field didnt fare well. Greg Biffle will start 28th, two spots in front of Kasey Kahne. Rookies Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon were 23rd and 31st. Ambrose, who has won two of the past three Cup races at Watkins Glen, set a track record of 129.491 mph in the first round of qualifying and had the fastest lap of the second round until Gordon went out at just the right time with no other drivers to contend with. Ambrose sped out in the closing seconds in an attempt to make one final run at the top spot but was too late and had to settle for second. "I wish Jeff was a little kinder to me to let me get the pole," said Ambrose, who needs a victory to make the Chase and is at the track where hes the odds-on favourite. "It was a pretty good lap, though, and I will take it. You have to be happy with front-row starts." Indeed. The last four winners at Watkins Glen came from the top 5 in qualifying. Keselowski, who won the pole for the Nationwide race at The Glen earlier Saturday and has finished second in the Cup race here the last three years, had traffic on one run and had to do a second trip around the 2.45-mile layout. "It kept all stacking up," Keselowski said. "I feel like we are really fast in race trim, we have a lot of speed. We just need it to not fall off so much. It we can do that, we will have a shot to win." Wholesale Bills Jerseys .Y. - For once, Clayton Kershaw was glad to see a long shutout streak end. Cheap Austin Proehl Jersey . It is only in Cup competition you can really call a win a disappointment. Jermon Bushrod Saints Jersey .  On a night heavily skewing in Toronto FCs favour, a 2-1 victory over a virtual Vancouver Whitecaps reserve team hardly flatters.  The first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship was an opportunity for Toronto to take control of the tie.  Mission failed.   Vancouver Whitecaps manager Carl Robinson elected to rest his regulars looking ahead to Saturdays game against the Columbus Crew.  Even with 29-year-old Nigel Reo-Coker in the lineup, the average age of the Whitecaps starting XI was 21.6, including 17-year-old Canadian goalkeeper Marco Carducci.  It was a glimpse of the future for Vancouver.  The kids were alright.  Toronto FC was less convincing.  Toronto, with the week off until the return leg next Wednesday in Vancouver, had the luxury to play a regular starting XI.  With only two changes from last weekends loss to New England, Toronto FC began the night heavy favourites.  Instead, heavy legs, heavy touches, and heavy lifting were needed to see the game out.  The Whitecaps grew in confidence and the manager played his cards right.  Robinson, seeing weakness in TFC and his team grow into the match brought on attacking players Kekuta Manneh and Sebastian Fernandez late, pushing for an away goal.  Although Vancouver conceded in the 89th minute en route, they found the precious goal in time added on and head home next week as favourite to advance.   Manneh scored the goal. Not the prettiest, but a timely and much needed strike in aggregate competition.  Toronto FC substitute Dwayne De Rosario was lucky to stay on the field after landing a forearm to the face of the goal scorer amongst a pile of flailing arms as Vancouver tried to get the ball back to midfield as soon as possible.  Manneh and De Rosario saw yellow before the game died out and the final whistle blew.   The script never seems to be straightforward for Toronto FC.  They have seldom been the dominant side in any match thus far this season.  Team commitment, work rate and shape remain solid, but interplay, build up, and execution in the final third continue to be issues.  It takes time for a team of new faces to come together.  With the World Cup break rapidly approaching, time is ticking for the team to click.   Here are my five thoughts from Toronto FCs 2-1 victory: 1) Two is not enough - Toronto FC dictated proceedings all night long, rendering Vancouver reliant on the counter-attack.  The build-up remained consistent and decent until reaching the final third.  In and around the opposing 18-yard box, the team remains a mess, with the exception of Jermain Defoe and Michael Bradley.  Good thing the big money players are coming through because the rest of the team needs to be much better in dangerous areas.  The final ball is often erratic.  And when the ball is on a platter, the finishing goes awry.  There isnt just one culprit.  They are too easily letting defenders off the hook.  Its all sloppy, too direct and too easy to mark.  Part of the issue is the team playing too narrow.  Justin Morrow and Mark Bloom rarely get involved in the attack to overlap in to dangerous areas.  The bulk of the attacking play comes down the middle, with even the outside midfielders coming far too inside.  More than two goals should have been had against a team of inexperienced kids.  Now Toronto has to go out west and get a result.  The pressure will be on the Whitecaps to get a goal, which may put Toronto back in their comfort zone playing on the counter.  2) Oh, Gilberto - More of the good and bad on display by Gilberto.  Hes not doing himself or the club any favours dispelling the notion he wasnt worth the club giving up Matias Laba.  The ups and downs in his game are so pronounced he may as well be called Two-Face.  For a player who predicted a 25-goal season, the polish in front of goal is simply not there.  Some nice interplay between Defoe and Issey Nakajima-Farran in the 21st minute broke Toronto FC free down the left flank.  The Canadian Internationals cross was on point, finding Gilberto wide open on the far post at the six-yard box.  The Brazilian headed wide; a brutal miss by any standard.  Its now been seven games without a goal for the striker.  The good: the work rate remains a plus and glimpses of his ability surface from time to time.  Gilberto dropped deep into space to gain possession and played a crafty ball behind the back line, springing Defoe on his goal.  More of this kind of positive play will ease the critics.  They will ultimately not be silenced until he starts scoring goals.  Designated Players must be impactful.  Thus far, the returns are subpar.  With an injured Bright Dike and De Rosario struggling to find form, a productive Gilberto is essential for sustained team success. 3) Defoe does it again - Defoe looked much sharper in his second game back returning from a nagging hamstring injury.  His quickness and superior movement was on full display in the win.  Defoe was cool in front of goal, composed as ever beating Carducci for his 28th minute opener, his fourth wearing red.  Defoe played provider on Bradleys 89th minute winner, drawing two defenders to him before playing a diagonal ball finding Bradley in space.  Whenever he gets the ball in and around the box, he is a threat and has the ability to create on his own.  Thats why its so important for the Englishman to be more involved.  There were stretches in the game where he faded out of the match when Toronto FC was too sloppy in possession.  He needs the ball played to his feet and his teammates to do better moving off the ball, finding space.  Defoes touch is sublime and distribution is spot on.  As long as Defoe stays fit, Toronto FC will remain a threat in every match they play.  Hes far too dangerous. 4) Hail Cesar - Toronto FC goalkeeper Julio Cesar was named to the Brazilian squad for this summers World Cup in his home country.  Cesars inclusion doesnt surprise with a resume second to none and showing good form since his arrival in Toronto.  He has fit in with the team exceptionally well, on and off the field.  Last years starting goalkeeper, Joe Bendik, will be called upon as stand-in upon Cesars World Cup absence.  Bendik got his first start Wednesday and picked up where he left off last season with strong play.  Bendik came to the rescue in the 44th minute, making a big save on Russell Teibert who found space inside the Toronto FC 18-yard box.  It was instinctive stuff, with Bendik reading the play, coming off his line and staying big.  Doneil Henry helped out Bendik seconds later, clearing Nicolas Mezquidas effort off the goalline.  Bendik came up big again in the 75th minute with a pair of timely saves on Omar Saldado.  The goal conceded was a mess with the defending all over the place.  The blame hardly falls on the goalkeeper.  There was enough on display Wednesday to alleviate any worry about a significant dip in goalkeeping when Cesar is gone.  But theres no question who remains the number one.   5) Not your average Joe - Linesman Joe Fletcher manned the west-side touchline for the match.  Much bigger games lay ahead for the Niagara Falls native in the not-so distant future.  The 37-year old will be running the touchline at this summers World Cup, just over a month away.  The assistant referee will link up with an American duo to form one of the 25 officiating crews in Brazil.  The last Canadian official to participate at a World Cup was Hector Vergara who was part of the 2002, 2006, and 2010 competitions.  Wishing Joe the best of luck and safe travels this summer. Next up for Toronto FC is the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal tie in Vancouver against the Whitecaps, Wednesday May 14 at BC Place. Rick Leonard Saints Jersey . They actually finished with a better record in ‘07 than they did in ‘06 but only marginally, going from 61 victories to 66. Marcus Davenport Saints Jersey . Wiggins, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward who plays his first exhibition game on Wednesday against Pitt State, was the top prospect in the class of 2013.FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots must get used to playing without Rob Gronkowski again. The star tight end who missed the first six games while recovering from surgeries is done for the season after being placed on injured reserve Monday with a damaged right knee. That experience could help the Patriots handle his absence. "Id like to think theres going to be some carry-over there, not only (from) the first six weeks of the season, but the entire training camp as well," coach Bill Belichick said Monday. "Thats the way we practiced and played most of the year." Gronkowski was hurt midway through the third quarter of the Patriots 27-26 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday when he was hit on the knee by safety T.J. Ward after a 21-yard reception. The Patriots were 5-1 while Gronkowski recovered from off-season operations on his left forearm and back. In the next six games, he led all NFL tight ends with 37 catches and 560 yards receiving and they were 4-2. But the offence was much more productive. Gronkowski caught touchdown passes in four consecutive games before making just two receptions for 32 yards against the Browns. He suffered a torn ACL and damaged MCL, a person familiar with the injury said Monday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team did not release those details. Cleveland coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday he didnt know whether Wards hit on Gronkowski resulted from a reluctance to hit a player high and possibly incur a fine for helmet-first contact. "From my vantage point, I think he was trying to get Gronkowski down on the ground," Chudzinski said. "A big guy coming at you that way is tough to get on the ground, so I dont know that it has to do with the rules other than trying to get the guy on the ground. Certainly, we feel terrible about that (injury). Hes a great player, and (we) hope that hee has a speedy recovery. Natrell Jamerson Saints Jersey. " The Patriots visit Miami on Sunday. "The thing about New England is they have an excellent offensive staff, they utilize their personnel very, very well, and they adjust," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. "You have to have a big enough system offensively that you can incorporate different players throughout the course of the season." The injury is just the latest to a key Patriots player. Defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly, linebacker Jerod Mayo and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer are on season-ending injured reserve. Gronkowskis injury should make it tougher for the Patriots (10-3) to hold on to the No. 2 spot in the AFC and a first-round bye. Cincinnati (9-4) is third and has beaten New England this season. "We cant sit here and try to pretend like its something thats easy and that we just can roll through. Its tough," special teams captain Matthew Slater said. "When you lose guys, and guys of this calibre, it makes it hard on your football team." The Patriots signed tight end D.J. Williams to the 53-man roster. They had released him last Wednesday after signing him as a free agent on Nov. 27. Williams played sparingly in a 34-31 win over Houston. He and Matthew Mulligan are the Patriots only healthy tight ends. Michael Hoomanawanui missed the past three games with a knee injury. "As far as (getting) more reps here or there, you just dont know," Mulligan said. "Its all game plan and well see what happens." Mulligan has just 16 receptions in five seasons. Gronkowski set an NFL record for tight ends with 18 touchdowns in 2011. "Unfortunately, weve had to take the field without him in the past and weve had to figure out ways to still be productive," Slater said. Its now 10 years after Todd Bertuzzis infamous hit, and Moores multi-million-dollar lawsuit is finally approaching a trial. Moores lawyer, Tim Danson, is asking the Ontario Superior Court to compel John McCaw Jr., who is based in Seattle, to testify in Toronto. "He just goes on with his life with the incredible privileges of being a billionaire...while Steve Moore tries to recover from a shattered life," Danson said in court Thursday. "For him to say, Im not going to come and testify in any capacity is regrettable. Its regrettable and it defies principles of fairness and justice. For him to simply hide behind his U.S. citizenship and residency given the nature of all of these facts should not be accepted and its not something the public would accept." NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly have voluntarily agreed to testify, Danson said. Master Ronald Dash, who is hearing the motion, said he would not order McCaw to testify in person at the trial, slated to begin in September, but is considering Dansons alternate request that McCaw testify via video conference. McCaws lawyer, Steven Frankel, argued that the court doesnt have jurisdiction to do that and suggested Danson is trying to do an "end run" around very specific court rules. Frankel said there is no evidence before the court that McCaw, who is not an individual defendant, even has relevant evidence to give. A jury should be able to hear McCaw answer whether he knew Canucks players were gunning for retaliation against Moore for a hit weeks earlier on former Canucks captain Markus Naslund that resulted in a concussion, Danson argued. Bertuzzi has alleged the Canucks then-coach Marc Crawford urged his players to make Moore "pay the price," while Crawford has claimed Bertuzzi disobeyed instructions to get off the ice before Moore was attacked. Players were issuing public threats against Moore before the hit, Danson said, and what McCaw did or didnt do about it is "highly relevant to the questiion of negligence. Tom Savage Jersey. " "Theres no way that you can have the intensity of the public threats over three weeks going on unless the corporate culture set by Mr. McCaw allowed it, and he has to answer to that," Danson said. Danson suggested that McCaw fostered a corporate culture that may have at least implicitly approved such an attack, including having as the president and general manager Brian Burke, who was "unapologetic about promoting violence in hockey." "Were Burke and Crawford carrying out the wishes of McCaw?" Danson suggested. "Or given the wink...when it came to getting Mr. Moore?" McCaw no longer owns the Canucks, having sold his company Orca Bay, now known as Canucks Sports and Entertainment. But he maintains a "very significant financial interest" in the outcome of the lawsuit, as he is still on the hook for half of any liability found against the team, which Danson said was a condition of the sale. "If he doesnt testify, if he doesnt come forward, our case is going to be significantly weakened," Danson said. "So he knows its not in his best interest to testify because if he testifies, it will be....to the benefit of the plaintiffs." Moore is suing Bertuzzi and the Canucks for $38 million for a 2004 on-ice hit that left Moore, then a Colorado Avalanche player, with a concussion and three fractured vertebrae. Bertuzzi pleaded guilty to a criminal charge of assault causing bodily harm and was sentenced in 2006 to a years probation and 80 hours of community service. He also served a multi-game suspension from the NHL but has gone on to play for several other NHL teams, including currently as a forward for the Detroit Red Wings. Meanwhile, for Moore, it has been a "very, very difficult 10 years," Danson said. "I think anybody can imagine, your entire life you want to make it in the NHL and he finally makes it...a dream come true and in his rookie year his career is cut short by probably the worst act of criminal violence in sports history," Danson said. "He still suffers from significant post-concussion symptoms that have a significant impact on his life." But the second best team in the West will be determined Thursday night in Winnipeg. With the Bombers you sense their confidence is genuine and real. Twice they have had to play excellent pressure response football that netted fourth quarter wins due to Drew Willy. And I dont discount the two defensive touchdowns in their game against the Alouettes as luck, both were a defence forcing a mistake than benefiting from one. This will be their best test yet because as confident as Winnipeg is, Edmonton is their equal in that mentality. I dont expect Adarius Bowman to score three touchdowns Thursday night as he did last Friday, but he will be a problem for Winnipeg. Another problem for Winnipeg will be pass protection. Drew Willy took some serious hits in the Montreal game, the second week in a row that protecting the quarterback was an issue. All logic says Edmonton wins, but logic does not play, it only influences. 24,000 fans followed by 27,000 fans the next week, the Blue Bombers need 30,000 fans to win on Thursday. Bombers win. Toronto Argonauts at Ottawa Redblacks If Toronto had beat Calgary last Saturday I would pick Ottawa to win their first CFL game this week, but they didnt so I cant. The pressure will be on Toronto to do what they did after their loss to the Roughriders: respond with excellence, and they should. The atmosphere at TD Place Stadium should be exceptional as it is another new beginning for an Ottawa team that wants to create new, positive history. But, after an offensive possession or two, that is diffused and it becomes about football only, not what is happening in the stadium. This one will be close as Ricky Ray will play at a higher level and Henry Burris will want to put on a show at home. But only 11 points scored last week in Edmonton has to be a concern. The best player for the Redblacks is Chevon Walker. He runs as fast as he flashed success when he was a Hamilton Tiger-Cat. Still, my pick is the Argonauts. Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Calgary Stampeders At Saskatchewan, at Edmonton, and now at Calgary to start the season is a challenge for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. And with the news that Tim Hortons Field will not be ready on time, that takes an edge of enthusiasm away. But, welcome to pro football, where if you cant accept and handle adversity then you will fade away. Hamilton did a remarkable job with it last year and theres no reason they wont handle it this summer as professionals. Bigger problem is the Week 4 competition in Calgary. Is it too early to say the next quarterback star in this league is Bo Levi Mitchell? He may have the best supporting cast around him in comparison to what Drew Willy and Mike Reilly have as young quarterbacks, but he is as real as it gets. As long as Calgary does not self-implode, I just cant see them losing. And I can only see Hamilton winning if Jeremiah Masoli or Dan LeFevour self-explodes with an excellent performance. Im going with Calgary. Montreal Alouettes at BC Lions History is not on the side of the Alouettes. They have had problems playing well traveling East to West across the country for a 4pm kick-off time in Vancouver. Troy Smith looked better as a quarterback but so did Kevin Glen for the Lions. In their first meeting  on July 4th, Montrael exposed a week offensive line for BC but this time around it should be better as the starting five have a game together under their belt and the video of that July 4th game to learn from. You cant expect Andrew Harris to have a second game as good as he had last week in Regina, but you can expect someone else to step up and shine. The Alouettes are good but have not played well in BC Place. The Lions will move to 2-2. Brandon Fusco Falcons Jersey . Completely. He seemed almost eager for the attention and scrutiny. The first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team was confident and engaged Tuesday as he was formally introduced by the St. Louis Rams, handling questions and scrutiny with aplomb well beyond that of a typical seventh-round pick. "Im determined to be great," Sam said. "I understand that right now you guys want to make a big deal of it." Sam put his arm around coach Jeff Fisher after sharing the podium with other late-round picks. He joked that hed never before heard the term "tweener" and even rose in his chair in mock intimidation of fellow Missouri draftee E.J. Gaines, a sixth-rounder whod been asked what the SEC co-defensive player of the year was like as a teammate. Sam, who came out to teammates and coaches before his senior season at Missouri, disagreed that his sexuality had been a secret. "Apparently, everybody else makes a big deal out of it," Sam said. "But my teammates and my school didnt." "Its OK to be who you are," he added. "Whether youre gay, straight, black or white, its OK to be comfortable in your own skin." After getting the go-ahead from owner Stan Kroenke and making the pick Saturday, Fisher called it a "second historic moment" for a franchise that signed running back Kenny Washington in 1946 as the NFLs first black player in the modern era. Just as in his post-draft teleconference with St. Louis media that was sprinkled with salty language, Sam was feisty. Hes had a few months to get accustomed to the role of trailblazer instead of a silent star. Sure, hes a role model. Right now hed much rather be the Rams description of "designated pass rusher." "I will always support equality, period," Sam said. "But my job is to focus on football and help this team win a championship." The appearance of perhaps the most famous seventh-round pick in NFL history attracted a massive amount of people. A half-dozen TV trucks lined a crammed parking lot at Rams Park, an hour before the teams two first-round picks were due at the podium. About 80 media members attended the news conferences. Three days earlier when the Rams chose Sam with the No. 249 overall pick, the media contingent was in single digits. "Theres some energy here," general manager Les Snead said with a smile between rounds of interviews. "But I dont think this is a circus. This deserves attention, but well get it over and well get to work." Sam shared the dais with five other players taken in the sixth and seventh rounds Saturday as the draft came to a close. Custom Falcons Jerseys. Snead joked that Tennessee State centre Demetrius Rhaney, taken one pick after Sam at 250th overall, should get the first question after it got lost in the hubbub Saturday. "Im not sure anybody knows we drafted Demetrius," Snead said, adding that he hoped someday that pick 249 will someday be a footnote in sports history, and not such a big deal. For Sams subsequent solo session with reporters, he was flanked by Fisher and Snead, with Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff joining the group. Everyone seemed eager to embrace Sam. Second-round pick Lamarcus Joyner, a cornerback from Florida State, has never had an openly gay teammate. He applauded Sams decision. "Hes a courageous young man," Joyner said. "Hes a brave young man that we need in this organization." The teams two first-round picks were first to the podium. Offensive tackle Greg Robinson, chosen second overall, sported a bow tie. Both got their due. Both welcomed Sam to the family. Robinson and Sam did a TV commercial together for a credit card company. Aaron Donald met Sam at ceremonies for the Lombardi and Nagurski awards. "Hes a cool guy," Donald said. "Hes a football player, he works his butt off and thats what you want. You want playmakers around you and hes a playmaker. Third-round pick Tre Mason, a running back from Auburn, said Sam was a "man of his own and hes entitled to do that." "Were a team and hes also a family member to me now." Sam will put on the pads later in the week when the team holds a three-day rookie orientation, much, if not all of it, closed to the media. The Rams drafted Sam even though they didnt need help at defensive end, where they have a pair of first-round picks as starters. Robert Quinn was second in the NFL with 19 sacks last season and Chris Long has been a standout since getting chosen second overall in 2008. But the Rams were well-stocked with picks, finishing with 11 selections, putting them in unique position to make history. "Shortly before we got to our pick, Michaels value as a football player was off the charts," Fisher said. "He has an opportunity now to come in and compete to try to make our team." Sam realizes its up to him to make the most of this chance, and he bristles at the naysayers who contend hes in the NFL only because he came out. "Will I make the cut?" he said, repeating a question. "You want to find out in a couple months, huh?" Cheap Brewers Jerseys Cheap Twins Jerseys Cheap Mets Jerseys Cheap Yankees Jerseys Cheap Athletics Jerseys Cheap Phillies Jerseys Cheap Pirates Jerseys Cheap Padres Jerseys Cheap Giants Jerseys Cheap Mariners Jerseys Cheap Cardinals Jerseys Cheap Rays Jerseys Cheap Rangers Jerseys Cheap Blue Jays Jerseys Cheap Nationals Jerseys ' ' '
MONTMELO, Spain -- Sebastian Vettels practice session at the Spanish Grand Prix ended with the four-time defending Formula One champion hitching a ride on a scooter after his Red Bull puttered out. Ravens Jerseys Pro Shop . Lewis Hamilton had no such problems, finishing Fridays opening day of practice with the top times from both training sessions as the dominating Mercedes team showed no signs of slowing down. The British driver is looking for his fourth straight win this season. Mercedes teammate and F1 leader Nico Rosberg was right behind, setting the afternoons second best time after his crew fixed a cooling issue. Vettel was running through his fifth lap on the sunny and dry 4.6-kilometre (2.9-mile) Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya when his Red Bull came to a halt. He then helped push his RB10 out of the path of his rivals before a group of fans gathered at the fence to take photographs of the champion using a fire extinguisher on the rear of his malfunctioning car. After Vettel was whisked back to the paddock on the back of a scooter, Hamilton clocked the fastest lap time in the opening session and then bettered that by almost 1.5 seconds in the afternoon with a mark of 1 minute, 25.524 seconds. Red Bull said an electrical problem that "damaged the wiring" of Vettels car meant he couldnt return for the afternoon practice session. That left Vettel with only one session on Saturday before qualifying. "Its a small failure, but a big consequence," Vettel said. Red Bull had given Vettels car an older chassis in a move the German called a "sanity check" to try to find an elusive answer to his cars lack of pace. The Austrian team renowned for its design had a bigger problem than speed, however, when Vettel was left stranded just after the fifth turn. Vettel is having his worst season at Red Bull with only one podium finish so far and sits in a distant fifth place in the standings. He has even had to let new teammate Daniel Ricciardo pass him twice during the last two races. And Ricciardo emerged from the opening day of practice as the closest thing the grid can offer as a threat to the Mercedes duo by recording the third best time in both sessions at almost a second behind Hamilton. Hamilton trails Rosberg by four points despite having won the last three races in front of his teammate. The pair have won all four races and taken all four pole positions this year. Hamilton hasnt lost a step after a three-week break and showed that the other teams have yet to make headway despite their upgrades for the start of the seasons run of European events. "Its been a great day today and Im happy to be back in the car after what feels like quite a long break," said Hamilton. "Our two practice sessions today went very smoothly, in fact Ive not had such a good Friday for a very long time." Last years race winner, Fernando Alonso, had the fourth best effort in both sessions, while Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen could do no better than fifth in the afternoon. Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo said he was "not happy" with his team and that he would work closely with new team principal Marco Mattiacci to "improve the situation as soon as possible." Pablo Maldonado of Lotus recorded the most laps through both 90-minute sessions with a total of 76. The early session to prepare for Sundays race featured some close calls. Sergio Perez had to box when the left mirror on his Force India car became detached. The Mexican driver had to grab it and drive one-handed while coming in. Sauber test driver Giedo Van der Garde survived a bigger scare when he told his team he had "a break failure" and ran off course, barely missing the wall. In the second session, Romain Grosjeans Lotus stalled at the end of the pitlane, while Jean-Eric Vergne lost the right rear wheel of his Toro Rosso. Max Chilton twice had to come in due to engine trouble before a piece of his Marussia went flying on his next trip out. He ended the day by driving into the sand. Youth Ravens Jerseys . Trailing 18-17 at the half, the Cavaliers (7-0) opened things up in the second while maintaining their strong defense to limit the Scarlet Knights to just eight points after the break. Kadeem Jack paced Rutgers (3-3) with eight points on 4-of-11 shooting. Greg Lewis scored four points and blocked five shots. Rutgers was limited to 12-of-48 shooting from the floor, and the two teams combined to go just 2-of-29 from beyond the arc with Rutgers missing all 13 of its attempts. At the 17:59 mark of the second half, Jack tied the game at 22 with a jumper. From there, the Scarlet Knights made just 2-of-23 shots from the field as Virginia pulled away. After not getting to the free throw line at all in the first half, the Cavs made 7-of-9 from the charity stripe to help pad their lead. FRANKFURT, Germany -- Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is still in the process of waking up from an induced coma following a skiing accident more than six weeks ago, his manager said Thursday. P.J. Hall Raiders Jersey . The Bild newspaper reported Wednesday -- without citing any sources -- that Schumacher had developed pneumonia, but Sabine Kehms emailed statement Thursday made no mention of that. "As often in such situations no day is like the next," Kehm said, adding that Schumachers family does not wish to disclose medical details in order to protect Schumachers privacy. "We will continue to communicate any decisive new information on Michaels health state. We are aware that the wake-up phase can take a long time. "The family continues to strongly believe in Michaels recovery. ... The important thing is not the speed of the recovery but that Michaels healing process progresses in a continuous and controlled way," Kehm said. Schumachers doctors started waking up the German driver one month after his crash in the French resort of Meribel. The 45-year-old Schumacher suffered serious head injuries Dec. 29 when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock. The German has been treated in the Grenoble University Hospital since then. His condition has stabilized following surgery after initially being described as critical. Experts have said it will likely be months before Schumachers prognosis becomes clear -- and that lasting brain damage is a possibility. Schumacher earned universal acclaim for his uncommon and sometimes ruthless driving talent, which led to a record 91 race wins. He retired from Formula One in 2012 after garnering an unmatched seven world titles. His accident happened on a family vacation in the Alps as Schumacher was skiing with his 14-year-old son. Arden Key Jersey . -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are bringing back quarterback Chad Henne -- and making him the starter. Shareece Wright Raiders Jersey . OAKLAND, Calif. Cheap Jaguars Jerseys . -- Having discovered his power stroke at the Oakland Coliseum, Athletics catcher John Jaso was more impressed by the ball he hit that didnt leave the park than he was by his second home run in as many days. That might be because it came in the 10th inning and gave Oakland its third walk-off win of the season. Jaso doubled in pinch-runner Nick Punto with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the As to a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. Jaso, who had not hit a home run in Oakland until his solo shot in Fridays 8-0 win, also homered in the third before delivering the fourth game-ending hit of his career. "Its funny because I thought that last ball I hit I hit harder than the other two and it hung up for some reason," Jaso said. "I dont know if the wind shifted, but I thought I hit it harder than the other two." After being limited to two hits over the first eight innings, the As scored twice in the ninth off Nationals closer Rafael Soriano to force extras and storm back for their third walk-off win this season. Alberto Callaspo singled off reliever Drew Storen (2-1) to lead off the 10th before Punto replaced him at first. Storen retired Eric Sogard and Derek Norris before Jaso hit a towering fly ball that ricocheted off the scoreboard in right field as Punto rounded the bases and scored. "Sometimes certain guys come up key in games when you dont get many hits," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. "(Jaso) did most of the damage. When you get down to those situations, it just becomes a grind." The Nationals were three outs from winning and had their rock-solid closer on the mound before Oakland greeted Soriano with three consecutive hits to open the ninth. Jaso singled and scored on Jed Lowries double. Josh Donaldson followed with a line drive single to drive in Jaso with the tying run. "Going into the ninth with a two-run lead and a guy that hasnt given up a run in 25 innings and it doesnt happen for you, its disappointing," Washington manager Matt Williams said. "Thats baseball." It was Sorianos first blown save since Aug. 17, 2013, and ended his career-high streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings. That spoiled a stellar outing by Washington starter Tanner Roark. Coming off the worst start of his season, Roark was masterful while shutting down the As offence. He allowed two hits over 7 2-3 innings, struck out five and didnt walk a batter. He gave up Jasos two-out home run in the third before retiring the next 13. The Nationals backed him with just enough offence until the bullpen broke down. Danny Espinosa hit a towering home run off Oakland starter Sonny Gray with one out in the third to give the Nats an early lead. Zach Walters and Denard Span followed with singles before Kevin Frandsen lined a two-run double to the gap in left-centre to make it 3-0. Jasos two-out home run off Roark in the bottom of the third trimmed Washingtons lead to 3-1. "Its strange how a pitcher can get on a roll like (Roark) did and everything we put in play was caught," Jaso said. "Those kind of days, thats when you want to get into the bullpen and change the momentum." Roark left with two outs in the eighth after a throwing error by Espinosa allowed Reddick to take third. Roark fielded Eric Sogards grounder cleanly, but his throw to first hit Reddick in the back of the helmet and ricocheted near the Nationals dugout. Tyler Clippard replaced Roark and retired pinch-hitter Derek Norris before the As rallied for the tying runs off Soriano. Sean Doolittle (1-2) pitched one inning for the win to help Oakland overcome an uneven outing by Gray. Gray, the AL pitcher of the month in April, struck out three and walked two. NEW YORK -- Geno Smith is still No. Cheap Keion Crossen Jersey . 1 for the New York Jets. For the moment. Whether its the second-year quarterbacks job to lose, well, offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg will see what effect Michael Vick has in whats expected to be a hotly contested competition this summer. "We brought Mike in to compete, to push Geno and to make Geno the very best he can make him, and I wanted to make sure Mike was ready for that," Mornhinweg said during a conference call Tuesday. "I think this thing is going to work beautifully. Well see." Smith started all 16 games for the Jets after incumbent Mark Sanchez was lost for the year after injuring his shoulder in the preseason. It was a roller-coaster ride for Smith and the Jets, as the young quarterback led four comeback victories in the fourth quarter or overtime in his first nine games, but then struggled mightily with six interceptions and no touchdowns in three straight losses. He bounced back with a solid final four games, with only two turnovers while leading the Jets to three wins and an 8-8 finish. "Were going to structure it a certain way," Mornhinweg said. "One thing I want to make sure of, that nothing impedes the young quarterbacks progression. Im talking about Geno. He progressed beautifully, and Im talking the last quarter of the season. Played like a winning quarterback, played at a high level." Not surprisingly, Mornhinweg acknowledged that Smith will take the first snaps with the starting offence when the team begins on-field practices in a few weeks. The Jets did the same last spring with Sanchez getting the first snaps over Smith. "Geno will get a few more reps, but not many (more)," Mornhinweg said. "Im going to try to do this thing right, and itll vary day to day, much like Ive done it in the past." Smith said last week hes taking the approach that hes the starter, and Vick acknowledged that when he signed with New York last month. But that doesnt mean Vick will be resigned to the fact he will be the backup, and thats one reason Mornhinweg was happy to be reunited with the veteran after their four seasons together in Philadelphia. "He has a really important role here," he said of Vick. "Hes 33 years old, and hes still got it. I look at him as a young 33. Hes still got it. ... When hes called upon to play, Ive got great confidence in Mike." And, if it turns out its in a mentor-type role as it was for Vick last year with Nick Foles in Philadelphia, Mornhinweg anticipates no issues. "Mikes going to handle that real well," he said. "Hes going to do the right thing." Vick is extremely familiar with Mornhinwegs system, theoretically giving the Jets two starting-calibre quarterbacks who can run the offence with little drop-off in case of injury or ineffectiveness. "I would expect Geno to progress at a high rate with Mikes help," Mornhinweg said. "I want to get Mike back comfortable with our terminology, with our system, exactly how we want these things done, so its just that simple. Vick isnt the only newcomer to an offence that finished 25th overall and struggled with consistency last season. The Jets signed former Titans star Chris Johnson to bolster the backfield and former Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker to upgrade perhaps the teams weakest spot a year ago. Mornhinweg is intrigued by the pass-catching ability Johnson has, but also believes he can be the "electric, dynamic" type of running back he was during his best years in Tennessee now that hes healthy. "Thats a pretty good little 1-2 punch," Mornhinweg said of the Chris Ivory-Johnson pairing. Decker had 87 receptions for 11 touchdowns last season while catching passes from Peyton Manning. Meanwhile, the Jets leading receiver was Jeremy Kerley with 43 catches, and it was clear New York would need to get better at the position through free agency -- they also signed Jacoby Ford -- and the draft. "Last year," Mornhinweg said, "I thought was quite possibly the start of something special." NOTES: Defensive co-ordinator Dennis Thurman said "the skys the limit" for Dee Milliner, the Jets top pick last year who will assume the No. 1 CB spot with the departure of Antonio Cromartie. Milliner struggled at times while dealing with injuries, but Thurman believes he can become "a very good corner." ... While cornerback remains a potential target in the first round, Thurman expressed confidence in his current group. "Im comfortable with our cornerback situation," he said. "We have guys who can play." Red Patriots Jerseys . Saskatchewans Darian Durant is expected to miss the rest of the Roughriders season with a torn tendon in his right elbow. SOCHI, Russia -- IOC President Thomas Bach accused world leaders Tuesday of using the Sochi Olympics as a political platform "on the backs of the athletes," and of snubbing the games without even being invited. Three days before the opening of Russias first Winter Games, Bach used a hard-hitting speech to call out politicians for using the Olympics to make an "ostentatious gesture" serving their own agendas. Without naming any individuals, Bachs comments appeared directed at President Barack Obama and European politicians who have taken stands against Russias law banning gay "propaganda" among minors. The Olympics, Bach said, should not be "used as a stage for political dissent or for trying to score points in internal or external political contests." "Have the courage to address your disagreements in a peaceful direct political dialogue and not on the backs of the athletes," he said at a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. "People have a very good understanding of what it really means to single out the Olympic Games to make an ostentatious gesture which allegedly costs nothing but produces international headlines. "In the extreme, we had to see a few politicians whose contributions to the fight for a good cause consisted of publicly declining invitations they had not even received." The buildup to the Olympics has been overshadowed by Western criticism of the anti-gay law and Russias record on human rights and other issues, making Sochi among the most politically charged games in years. Obama and key European leaders are shunning the Olympics. Obama, in a clear message against the anti-gay laws, has sent a delegation to Sochi made up of three openly gay athletes -- tennis great Billie Jean King, 2006 Olympic hockey medallist Caitlin Cahow and figure skater Brian Boitano. For the first time since 2000, the U.S. delegation to an Olympics will not include a president, vice-president or first lady. Former Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano leads the delegation. German President Joachim GGauck and French President Francois Hollande are also not coming to Sochi. Sale Patriots Jerseys Store. Neither is British Prime Minister David Cameron. Bach reiterated again that Putin had given the IOC assurances that the Olympic Charter would be upheld during the games and that homosexuals would not be discriminated against. Bach said Olympic values stand against any form of discrimination, including on grounds of sexual orientation. But he stressed the IOC must be "politically neutral without being apolitical" and that athletes must not use the Olympic Village and venues for "political demonstrations." The IOC has come under criticism for not doing more to fight the anti-gay law, but Bach said the committee was a sports organization with limited responsibilities. "We are not a supra-national government," he said. "We are not a superior world-parliament. We do not have a mandate to impose measures on sovereign states." Bachs speech was delivered at a ceremony marking the opening of the IOCs three-day session, or general assembly, ahead of the games. The Germans sharp comments marked a strong contrast with the relatively anodyne, diplomatic speeches of his predecessor, Jacques Rogge. Bach, winner of a fencing gold medal at the 1972 Olympics, was elected in September to succeed Rogge, who served for 12 years. Bach acknowledged there had been "a lot of skepticism in and outside the IOC" when Sochi was awarded the Olympics in 2007. "Now, seven years later, we can see that Sochi, that Russia has delivered," he said. Putin lauded the IOCs decision to bring the games to the Black Sea resort. "We realize what a difficult decision this was to hold the games in a city that barely had 10 to 15 per cent of the necessary infrastructure," he said. "You believed in us, you believed in the Russian character which can overcome all difficulties."
