FORT WORTH, Texas -- Criminal charges have been dropped against Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton over a 2013 altercation at a Dallas-area bar. authentic soccer jerseys cheap . Tarrant County prosecutors on Wednesday announced the misdemeanour case against Melton has been dismissed, along with civil proceedings. Melton was arrested in December in Grapevine, where he went to high school, on charges of misdemeanour assault and public intoxication. Police said Melton refused to leave and allegedly fought with bar workers. He denied the allegations. The bar owner and Melton both sued. Prosecutors on Wednesday said the civil proceedings were dismissed without either party paying damages and the bar owner requested that criminal charges be dropped. Melton was with the Bears since 2010. The Cowboys in March signed Melton to an incentive-laden one-year contract with a $1.25 million base salary. authentic soccer jerseys sale . A night later, he was back to help lead a rout of the Detroit Pistons. John Wall had 20 points and 11 assists, and Beal scored 10 of his 15 points during the second quarter as Washington pulled away for a 106-82 victory on Saturday. wholesale cheap nfl jerseys china outlet .com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies have finalized their agreed-upon trade that sends former National League MVP Jimmy Rollins to the West Coast for a pair of minor league pitching prospects. This week the 2013/14 Premier League season comes to a close. Here at TSN.ca we will take a look back at the season by bringing together a panel of experts to help pick the best 50 players of the season. This list is based purely on their performances this season. It is not a list of who we think the best 50 players in the league are. Fourteen members were asked to take part (panel below) and submit their top 20 players of the season. Their list was then placed into a scoring system and then the totals determined the overall positions in the top 50. Each day this week we will release the list in 10s. The sport is very much about opinions, so please feel free to write your own list in the comments below. You can read part one of the list here. You can read part two of the list here. You can read part three of the list here. Here is how the Top 20 were scored – 1st place – 30pts; 2nd place – 25; 3rd place – 22; 4th place – 20; 5th place – 18; 6th place – 17; 7th place – 15; 8th place – 14; 9th place – 13; 10th place – 12; 11th place – 10; 12th place – 9; 13th place – 8; 14th place – 7; 15th place – 6; 16th place – 5; 17th place – 4; 18th place – 3; 19th place – 2; 20th place – 1. The Panel Six members of TSNs soccer team were on the panel and were joined by eight other members from around the world who were asked to represent their specific field. Joining our staff members were two outstanding statistical experts, Jonny Blain and Simon Gleave, two brilliant reporters/commentators covering the league, Stewart Coggin and Paul Sarahs and two extremely knowledgeable tactics writers, Tim Palmer and Ritesh from the False9 website and a man who covers the development side of the league like no other, Aidan from the England Youth website. In addition, also involved was arguably one of the knowledgeable writers covering the league in the world, Michael Cox, aka Zonal Marking. Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) – We now know that Daniel Levy, Franco Baldini and Andre Villas-Boas didnt see eye-to-eye and we also know a lot of the money, from the Gareth Bale sale, that they collectively spent, may well have better served by being set on fire for a spectacular bonfire in the middle of White Hart Lane. Thankfully, some of their purchases worked out and none better than the new Great Dane, Eriksen. The 22-year-old is on a path to world-class stardom and still managed to perform at a consistent high level, whichever role he was asked to do under whichever manager was in charge. Few in the league can muster a better delivery from a set-piece or make a key pass in the final third. 19. Fernandinho (Manchester City) – The Premier League has not always been good to Brazilians. Sure, Juninho was wonderful for Middlesbrough in the 90s, but for every good Brazilian it seemed five others disappointed. Afonso Alves, anyone? Kleberson? Jo? Robinho? Things, however, are changing with Paulinho, David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires, Willian and Philippe Coutinho all shining in parts of this campaign. Citys Fernandinho, though, was the best of them all this season. Excellent with Shakhtar Donetsk, City identified him immediately as a massive upgrade to Gareth Barry last summer and how right they were. There are few smarter players in the league and the Brazilians discipline allowed Yaya Toure to blossom even more. 18. Leighton Baines (Everton) – The English left back never has a bad game for Roberto Martinezs men and has become one of the faces of the Premier League internationally. It is a remarkable rise to fame for a player who seems uninterested in the bright lights. Baines, regularly linked with a move to Manchester United under David Moyes, might just be the perfect fit for Everton, who continued to evolve under their new boss and didnt use Baines as much as an attacking threat in the final third as in the past (his successful ccrosses were down over one per game this season compared to last). cheap jerseys free shipping. A shoo-in for a spot on the plane to Brazil for Roy Hodgson. 17. Jay Rodriguez (Southampton) – Many Premier League watchers scoffed when Southampton, recently promoted to the top flight, spent in excess of seven million pounds on a Spanish sounding Englishman from Burnley. ‘J-Rod showed flashes of talent last season, scoring exceptional goals against United and Chelsea, but this season made that price look like a bargain. The Saints were a treat to watch with their attacking flexibility this season, but all of that needed an end product and Rodriguez provided it with 15 league goals before his season, and World Cup chances, ended with a cruciate injury. Few are better in one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper - a real measure of a strikers credentials. 16. Luke Shaw (Southampton) – Rodriguez is likely to stay at St Marys for some time, but his teammate, left back Shaw, may play his final game for the club this Sunday. It will be difficult for the club to turn down large offers from Premier League giants and the 18-year-old will probably be wearing the blue of Chelsea or the red of Manchester United next season. English football has waited for a talent, with a composed left foot, like this for some time. It is remarkable to think Shaw was still in high school two years ago as no stage has fazed him yet at the highest level of English football. 15. Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) – The stats will show that Rooney scored 17 goals and, with 10 assists, contributed directly to 27 league goals in 27 starts (heading into the final weekend), but it was far from a great season for the forward. For a player labeled by most as ‘world class, Rooney hasnt taken over enough games and questions still exist as to what is best position is. A liability defensively when played as a number-10 against top teams, Rooney can thrive when placed directly up front, but with Robin van Persie that will not always happen. United paid handsomely to keep him long-term, as they should, seeing that they need a lot more players close to his talent, but the new manager needs to work on Rooneys consistency and see how he fits best with van Persie and Juan Mata. 14. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) – Harshly considered a flop after making a big money move to Anfield at a young age, the English midfielder blossomed on the big stage this season, leading Liverpools intelligent press with his fantastic energy and workrate. After spending almost 20 million pounds on a 20-year-old with much to learn, it looked like Henderson may be cast aside with other big money flops like Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll. Instead, Brendan Rodgers saw something Kenny Dalglish didnt and the rest is history. Henderson was badly missed while he was suspended down the stretch. 13. Gary Cahill (Chelsea) – This season Cahill took his game to another level. As the league continues to get more and more international, fewer English players are relied upon to play in big games. In just over two years at Stamford Bridge, Cahill has played under four Chelsea managers and has been one of the few players who has been trusted by all of them. A true big game performer, after stand-out performances in past European finals, the 28-year-old was exceptional for Jose Mourinho this season. Now an integral part of Roy Hodgsons squad for Brazil. 12. John Terry (Chelsea) – Cahill and John Terry were easily the best defensive centre-back partnership this season. Arsenals duo had a good season, but no one came close to the English pair. Terry will tell anyone who is willing to listen just how much he loves Mourinho and it is not hard to understand why. Last season, under Rafa Benitez, the Chelsea skipper spent much of the campaign on the bench but Mourinhos style, on and off the pitch, has revitalized Terrys career. 11. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) – Once the kid made famous for being shouted at by his manager on the ‘Being: Liverpool documentary series, Sterling is now a potential star in the Premier League. Last season he started well, but tired late and Brendan Rodgers rested his long-term project. This season, it was the opposite with Rodgers taking his time to unleash the 19-year-old until his performances were so good that the manager could no longer keep him out of the side. Had a number of outstanding games, but the world stood and took notice when he played at the top of a midfield diamond at home to Man City and was the games best player. Sterling has a real appreciation for space, but can terrify opposing defenders with intelligent, fast runs, as well. ' ' '
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. Jordan 11 For Sale Cheap Real . - The Vancouver Whitecaps went from euphoric to despondent in less than two minutes. When things were finally settled their playoff chances were gone. Gabriel Torres scored two goals for Colorado, including one in the 77th minute, and the Rapids eliminated the Whitecaps from post-season contention with a 3-2 win Saturday night. Kekuta Manneh and Camilo Sanvezzo scored for the Whitecaps, who needed at least a tie to keep their playoff hopes alive. "We came here for a win and we didnt get that," goalkeeper David Ousted said. "Disappointed being out of the playoffs." Vancouver was vying for its second straight post-season appearance in just its third season in Major League Soccer. The Whitecaps set a team record for points and wins this year but werent rewarded with a playoff berth. "There are a lot of positives throughout the season," defender Jay DeMerit said. "Our two main goals were to make the playoffs and win the Cascadia Cup. We won the Cascadia Cup and just missed the playoffs. I wouldnt call that season a failure." For a while it appeared as though they were going to stay alive in the playoff race. After Sanvezzo tied it on a penalty kick in the 75th minute with his 19th goal the Whitecaps looked like they were heading home for a winner-take-all showdown against Colorado on Oct. 27. A minute later Torres held off defenceman Jordan Harvey long enough to turn and blast a shot over Ousted and off the crossbar to put the Rapids in the lead again. "That was an unbelievable strike by Torres. Undefendable," Vancouver coach Martin Rennie said. "We could have defended better. The bottom line for us we havent defended well enough. Weve been scoring goals and losing 3-2." Defence was an issue when the Rapids took a 2-1 lead early in the second half. Goalie Clint Irwin sent a ball downfield and Deshorn Brown beat defender Young-Pyo Lee to the ball just inside the box. Ousted tried to get to it first, but he was caught out and Brown lofted a shot over him that bounced into the net in the 51st minute. "I was trying to get into a position where I can put him under pressure," Ousted said. "Obviously Im not in a good position at that point. I didnt get there." The Whitecaps (12-12-9) survived an early push by Colorado, including a close call when Brown sent a shot just wide in the 24th minute. Later in the half, his shot went off Carlyle Mitchells face, temporarily knocking the defender out of the game. Vancouver started to put pressure on the Rapids and it finally paid off when Manneh lofted a shot over Irwin into the top right corner in the 32nd minute to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead. "We scored a fantastic goal to go ahead 1-nil, we were playing reasonably well at that time," Rennie said. The Rapids got it back late in the first half when they were awarded a penalty kick on a foul by Mitchell. Torres easily beat Ousted to tie it in the 41st minute. "It was a big decision to give a penalty kick. It was a very soft free kick in the first place and the ball was over the players heads and he was given a penalty kick," Rennie said. "That was a very soft penalty kick and that was a big moment." It turned out to be pivotal when Torres scored his second goal on a great individual play and kicked the Whitecaps out of the playoffs. "When it got to 2-2 it was whoever scored next," DeMerit said. "Both sides created chances. After we pulled it back and got a penalty of our own, it was a back-and-forth game from that point and credit to them. It was a great finish by their forward to make it 3-2 and they made it hard for us to come back." Air Jordan 11 Uk . Moments after his Brooklyn Nets teammates ran out onto the court to congratulate him following their 100-98 overtime win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Johnson could only shake his head at scoring only 13 points on 6-of-19 shooting. Discount Air Jordan 11 . -- Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has a broken bone below his right eye after being struck by a bad-hop grounder, sidelining the star slugger for at least a week with opening day on deck.DENVER - The best part of Peyton Mannings big day was getting to share the spotlight with some of his best friends.Manning joined Brett Favre in the NFLs most exclusive of clubs with his 500th touchdown toss Sunday when the Denver Broncos handed the Arizona Cardinals their first loss, 41-20.Football is the ultimate team game, and so I guess one man has to accept it and I really accept it on behalf of a lot of coaches and teammates, Manning said.Manning threw for 479 yards and four TDs, moving him within five of Favres record 508.After getting his touchstone touchdown a€” a 7-yard dart to tight end Julius Thomas a€” out of the way early, Manning helped Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker make history, too.Demaryius Thomas set a franchise record with 226 yards on eight catches, beating Shannon Sharpes mark of 214 yards set against Kansas City in 2002.Welkers seven receptions moved him past Rod Smith for the most catches in NFL history by an undrafted player. He has 854, five more than Smith caught for Denver between 1995-2006.I still cant believe he was undrafted because that man can play some ball, Demaryius Thomas said.Welkers record-breaker came on the last play on the first half, something Manning called kind of a ha-ha moment for scouting, for not drafting him. So, whoever was a general manager in 2004, those guys ought to send him an apology letter.Demaryius Thomas caught touchdown passes of 31 and 86 yards, and his 77-yard TD was nullified on a chop block by Julius Thomas that sent defensive end Calais Campbell from the game with a right knee injury.Left tackle Ryan Clady was engaged with Campbell and was whistled for the flag. But it was the Pro Bowl tight end who crashed low into Campbell and drew the wrath of Arizona coach Bruce Arians.Ive been coaching for 37 years, its the dirtiest play Ive seen, Arians fumed. It was a flat chop block and put him out of the game. I know John Fox, great coach and great guy. Somebody has got to answer to that. A fine isnt going to do it, when hes going to miss three or four weeks, on a blatant chop block.Campbells strained MCL added to a miserable afternoon in which the Cardinals (3-1) surrendered 568 yards, the most theyve allowed since 1973, and saw fill-in quarterback Drew Stanton leave with a concussion. The Broncos offensive output was their best in franchise history. They had 567 yards against Atlanta in 2004.Mannings 500thh TD throw came in his 244th career regular season game, 49 fewer games than it took Favre. Air Jordan 11 Uk Sale. It came against two of his mentors: Arians, who was his first QB coach in 1998, and Cardinals assistant head coach Tom Moore, who was his offensive co-ordinator during his 13 seasons in Indy.I give both of those men a lot of credit for helping me improve as a quarterback, Manning said.Footballs from Mannings milestone TDs usually end up in his receivers trophy cases, but he kept this one. Ill probably keep it in a bag somewhere, said Manning, adding that hes sure his 3-year-old boy will get to it soon and play with it in the mud.Among Mannings two interceptions was one by Campbell, the 300-pound defensive end who snatched his screen pass to a wide-open Montee Ball and rumbled to the 5 before Manning tripped him up.Dont give me a full tackle for that, Manning said. Give me like a half. I barely grazed his leg.Ellington took it in from there to pull Arizona to 14-13.Manning saw cornerback Antonio Cromartie lined up 1 on 1 on Demaryius Thomas and hit his big receiver in stride at the 40. Cromartie crumpled to the grass and Thomas sped into the end zone with an 86-yard score that gave Denver a 21-13 halftime lead.Although only six of the 14 passes Manning threw at Cromartie were completed, those half dozen grabs covered 199 yards. Its by far the worst game of my career, Cromartie said. But its one game out of the season. Weve got 12 more games.Stanton was 11 for 26 for 118 yards before being knocked from the game on a hard hit by Von Miller in the third quarter. On his third series, Logan Thomas threaded a pass through linebacker Nate Irvings grasp and into the arms of running back Andre Ellington for a stunning 81-yard score that made it 24-20.That ended up being Thomas only completion in eight attempts.Brandon McManus, whose solid start convinced the Broncos they should release the suspended Matt Prater, made it 27-20 when his 41-yard field goal bounced off the left post and through the uprights.NOTES: Mannings 86-yard TD toss tied a career best, matching one he threw to Marcus Pollard on Nov. 18, 2001, for the Colts against the Saints. ... Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson sprained his left ankle. ... TAMPA, Fla. Nike Free Canada Sale . -- Two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana agreed Tuesday to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles as he tries to come back from the second major operation on his left shoulder. Santana would get a $3 million, one-year deal if added to the 40-man roster and would have the chance to earn an additional $5.05 million in roster and performance bonuses. He would receive the full amount for 120 days and 25 starts. The 34-year-old left-hander became a free agent after completing a $137.5 million, six-year contract with the New York Mets, who declined a $25 million option and paid a $5.5 million buyout. Santana, 139-78 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 seasons with Minnesota and the Mets, missed the 2011 season following shoulder surgery on Sept. 14, 2010, returned to pitch the Mets first no-hitter on June 1, 2012, then missed last season after an operation on April 2. The deal announced Tuesday follows Baltimores recent agreements with right-handers Ubaldo Jimenez and Suk-min Yoon, and outfielder Nelson Cruz. "I think its great," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before Tuesday nights game against the New York Yankees. "Im not going to say no risk, as far as, Im not the owner, but its another thing that Peter (Angelos) allowed us to do that puts us in position to get kind of lucky. Im not going to say its a no lose proposition. There are things you lose, but it makes a risk worth taking. I think its exciting, the possibility down the road." Santana is expected to report Wednesday. The Orioles are hopeful that he might be ready to pitch in the majors around June 1. Santana can earn $2.1 million in bonuses based on days on the active 25-man roster: $250,000 for 30, $350,000 for 60, $500,000 for 90 and $1 million for 120. He can make $2.95 million based on starts: $250,000 for five, $350,000 for 10, $500,000 for 15, $750,000 for 20, $150,000 each for 21 and 22, $200,000 apiece for 23 and 24, and $400,000 for 25. He has additional award bonuses for All-Star selection, and winning a Gold Glove and the Comeback Player of the Year and league championship series and World Series MVP awards. Santana would get $100,000 if he is released before March 25. He would be able to opt out of the deal if he isnt added to the major league roster by May 30. Nike Free Clearance . -- When the Los Angeles Kings are on top of their formidable defensive game, they revel in the silence they can create in a frustrated road arena. Nike Free Canada Online .com) - Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar and New York Islanders right wing Kyle Okposo were named the NHLs players of the week on Monday.VANCOUVER - Montreal Canadiens captain Brian Gionta is expected to miss Saturdays game against the Vancouver Canucks for family reasons. NEW YORK, N. Air Max 97 Ireland .Y. - Zack Greinke and the Los Angeles Dodgers have knocked Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees off baseballs payroll perch, part of an off-season spending spree that has the average salary approaching $4 million for the first time. The Dodgers are ending the Yankees 15-year streak as baseballs biggest spenders and as of Tuesday had a projected payroll of $235 million, according to study of all major league contracts by The Associated Press. New York, which last failed to top the payroll rankings in 1998, was a distant second at $203 million. After that, it was another huge gap to Philadelphia at $180 million, followed by Boston at $163 million and Detroit at $162 million. Houston is last at $45 million, up from $27 million at the start of last year, and Miami at $48 million remains 29th. Some large-market teams are among the smaller spenders, with the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs projected at $89 million, ranked 22nd and 23rd. Rodriguez, who holds the record for the largest deal in baseball history at $275 million over 10 years, is suspended for the season for violations of baseballs drug agreement and labour contract. Because of the ban, he will earn only $2,868,852 of his $25 million salary — 21 days pay for the 183-day season. Greinke would have become the highest-paid player, even if Rodriguez was getting all his cash. The pitcher has a $24 million salary in the second season of his $147 million, six-year contract, and because he can opt out of the deal after the 2015 season, baseballs accounting rules call for his $12 million signing bonus to be prorated over the first three seasons. "Weve got great ownership and a great fan base, and we need to do what we can to win games," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said last week in Sydney, where Los Angeles swept its opening, two-game series against Arizona. "I dont think the guys worry about it. I know we dont worry about it," Colletti said. "Were expected to win, and thats how we go about it. Money doesnt mean you win. Money just means you have a chance to get the best players." As of Tuesday, the average salary projected to be between $3.95 million and $4 million, with the final figure depending on how many players are put on the disabled list by the time opening-day rosters are finalized at 3 p.m. Sunday. That translates to a rise of 8 to 10 per cent from last years opening average of $3.65 million and would be the largest increase since 2006 or possibly even 2001. "Im not surprised. With the type of revenues clubs are enjoying these days, the average salaries are going to go up," New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said. Illustrating the rate of escalation, the opening-day average was $1.07 million when Derek Jeter first reached the major leagues in 1995, broke the $2 million mark in 2001 and spurted past $3 million in 2008. "I think its great. I think it just shows the game is growing, fan interest is there," said Jeter, the Yankees captain who is retiring at the end of this season. "The business of baseball seems like its booming pretty good right now." The average U.S. wage in 2012 was $42,498, according to the Social Security Administration, the latest figure available and an annual increase of 3.12 per cent. Following Greinke on the highest-paid list are Philadelphias Ryan Howard and Cliff Lee at $25 million, the Yankees CC Sabathia at $24.3 million, and Seattles Robinson Cano and Texas Prince Fielder at $24 million each. The APs figures include salaries and prorated shares of signing bonuses and other guaranteed income for players on active rosters, disabled lists and the restricted list. For some players, parts of deferred money are discounted to reflect current values. Payroll figures factor in adjustments for cash transactions in trades, signing bonuses that are the responsibility of the club agreeing to the contract, option buyouts, and termination pay for released players. For instance, the Yankees are receiving $18.6 million from the Los Angeles Angels to cover most of the $21 million due to outfielder Vernon Wells, who has been released, and $13 million from the Chicago Cubs to pay most of the $18 million owed outfielder Alfonso Soriano. The Mets payroll include buyouts to Johan Santana ($4.9 million present value) and Jason Bay ($2.7 million present value). ___ AP Sports Writer Dennis Passa and AP freelance writers Mark Didtler and Jon Santucci contributed to this report. Cheap Authentic Air Max 97 . Dorian Finney-Smith scored 16 points, most of them on dunks, and the Gators used a second-half surge to beat No. 16 seed Albany 67-55 in the NCAA tournament Thursday. The Gators (33-2) showed some vulnerability, though, while extending their school-record winning streak to 27 games. Donovans team sleepwalked through the first half, swapping the lead back and forth with the pesky Great Danes, but Floridas bench provided a much-needed spark. Finney-Smith, the Southeastern Conferences sixth man of the year, was 6-of-10 shooting and tough to handle in the post. Freshman guard Kasey Hill, who wasnt sure he would be able to play because of turf toe, chipped in 10 points off the bench and was dynamic on the open floor. Patric Young finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season. Casey Prather (16 points) and Scottie Wilbekin (10) also reached double figures for Florida, which will play ninth-seeded Pittsburgh in the South Region on Saturday. DJ Evans led Albany (19-15) with 21 points and seven rebounds. He set the tone for the Great Danes early, but couldnt do enough to pull off the most elusive enough in college basketball. Floridas win made No. 1 seeds 117-0 against 16 seeds since the NCAA tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. But this one was far from a lopsided affair. The first half couldnt have gone much better for Albany, which was back on the court less than 48 hours after the programs first NCAA tournament win. The Great Danes, who beat Mount St. Marys in the First Four in Daytona, Ohio, made 10 of their first 15 shots and hung with Florida. Albany did an impressive job breakinng Floridas press. Cheap Air Max 95 Wholesale. And coach Will Brown had a clear game plan on defence: Dont let Michael Frazier II get any clean looks from 3-point range, beg Prather to take jumpers and sag in the post on centre Young. The Gators took the bait -- for a while. Frazier was scoreless in the first half, Prather turned into a jump shooter and Young was missing early on. But Donovan adjusted, like hes done so many other times this season, and got Florida rolling. Wilbekin started driving and dishing, creating easy baskets for Young and Finney-Smith at the rim. Finney-Smith had six consecutive points that seemed to get the SEC champs going, and Prather followed with a three-point play. Floridas final 10 baskets of the first half were in the paint. Still, Donovan was livid at halftime and ripped his players for a lack of defence. They responded with a 9-0 run early -- spearheaded by defence -- in the second half that turned out to be the difference. Young started it with a three-point play. Hill followed with a driving layup and then added two free throws after a turnover. Will Yeguete got another steal, and Finney-Smiths emphatic dunk capped the spurt. It was exactly what Florida needed. The Gators pretty much held on from there, making enough post plays and free throws to keep Albany at bay. For Florida, the NCAA tournament has been the goal all season. But as the wins mounted, they turned their attention toward winning a national title. Theyve looked capable much of the season, becoming the first team in SEC history to finish the regular season 18-0 and then won SEC tournament by pulling out tight games against fellow NCAA tournament teams Tennessee and Kentucky. But their performance Thursday left Donovan and many bracket managers shaking their heads. ' ' '
Fort Worth, TX (SportsNetwork. Cheap Vegas Golden Knights Jerseys .com) - It took an extra session, but No. 21 Baylor prevailed over TCU, 66-59, on Saturday. Defenses shined in this game with the teams combining to shoot 33.6 percent and make just 3-of-25 from behind the arc. Taurean Prince scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bears (12-3, 1-2 Big 12), and Rico Gathers added 17 points and a career-high 18 boards. The Horned Frogs (13-3, 0-3) lost for the third straight game after finishing non-conference play undefeated. They have now lost 21 games in a row in Big 12 play. Kyan Anderson tallied 16 points for TCU, its only player to reach double figures. The entire game was played in a 12-point window in which neither team led by more than five until the Bears hit four free throws in the final 10 seconds of OT. With shots not falling from the floor, the teams needed to get to the line, but they are each among the worst free throw-shooting teams in the country. Baylor made 31-of-46 shots from the charity stripe, and TCU made just 15-of-28 attempts. I thought TCU defensively was outstanding, said Baylor coach Scott Drew. The good thing is we found a way down late to come back and get a win in the Big 12. At the end of the day, its tough to win the game let alone a road game. TCU took its biggest lead with 4:46 to go in regulation on Amric Fields layup, but a Prince dunk and Lester Medford three-point play tied the game. With 1:21 to go, Karviar Shepherds jumper broke a 51-51 tie, but Kenny Cherys shot at the other end brought Baylor even. Baylor had possession of the ball with an approximate one-second difference between the shot and game clock, but TCU forced a shot clock violation with less than a second in regulation. Video replay showed 1.7 seconds remained for TCU to try and win in regulation. However, after Anderson received the inbounds pass, he stumbled and could not get a shot off. The Bears never trailed in overtime after Chery hit a pair of free throws on their first possession. The Frogs shot just 1-of-6 from the field in OT. We are a better team than we have shown, especially with free throws and turnovers. We just have to fix that, said Anderson. A back-and-forth first half ended in a 28-28 tie. After Baylor made three of its first four shots from the field, it made just two of its next 17. Kenrich Williams jumper with 4:37 to go in the first half put TCU up 21-19, but the Horned Frogs did not hit from the field again before the break. Game Notes TCU is 0-6 against Baylor since joining the Big 12 ... Baylor outrebounded TCU, 49-41 ... Bears other than Gathers and Prince combined to shoot 7-of-34 ... Anderson hit both of TCUs triples ... PETERSBURG, Fla.LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Canadas womens hockey team didnt play its best game in its Four Nations Cup opener, but it was enough to beat Finland 3-1. Rebecca Johnston, Natalie Spooner and Vicki Bendus scored for Canada, which is playing this tournament without star forward Hayley Wickenheiser and five other veterans. Canada scored two goals in 1:34 in the first period and wound up outshooting Finland 39-23. "We were a little soft," said forward Meghan Agosta-Marciano, who assisted on Spooners goal. "We need to be able to chip the puck a little more, come out of the zone together and come with speed, and thats something that we kind of lacked a bit tonight. Thats not the best hockey that were going to be playing this tournament." Coach Dan Church praised his teams adjustments in the third period but said the consistency needs to be better. "Finlands a tough team to play against because they clog the neutral zone and theyre very good at their neutral-zone forecheck," he said. "We didnt make an adjustment in the second period, but I thought the third period we did a good job." Finlands only goal came in the third period, when Tea Villila scored on the fifth of six power plays to make it 3-1. Canada took seven minor penalties but Johnstons goal, from Haley Irwin and Brianne Jenner, came on the power play. Goaltender Charline Labonte stopped 22 of the 23 shots she faced. "Charline had a solid game in net for us, turned aside a bunch of shots and was cconsistent back there," Church said. Cheap Golden Knights Jerseys. . In addition to Wickenheiser, Canada is without experienced forwards Caroline Ouellette and Marie-Philip Poulin and defencemen Meaghan Mikkelson, Lauriane Rougeau and Laura Fortino, who are getting a rest. Church wants to win the Four Nations Cup, but this tournament is also about evaluating players for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. "Its a prestigious tournament, and its an important step on the road to Sochi. But there are things that we need to do to build our team," he said. "We brought 21 players here that are going to play all four games, and thatll be an important process for us selecting our team down the road, leaving some players behind in Calgary." Those in Lake Placid, N.Y., have their sights on winning now and worrying about Sochi later. "When I think Canada I think winning every single opportunity we have in any game or any tournament," Agosta-Marciano said. "Its great tournament to kind of see where everybodys at, and at the end of the day we want to come out of this on top." Canadas next game is Wednesday night against the United States, which it has already defeated twice recently. This is a renewal of that rivalry, even with some of Canadas best players not participating. "I think itll be good to see some of our younger players, having some of our more experienced veterans at home in Calgary, its an opportunity for them to step up," Church said. ' ' '
TORONTO - Manager John Gibbons doesnt expect the Blue Jays to have the same look when the club reports to Dunedin for spring training next February. Nike Air Max 1 Discount . "I think the team, they need to make some changes, no question," said Gibbons. "Very rarely in the business do you maintain the status quo when youre coming off a bad year, you know? You cant afford to. They dont let you." Gibbons wouldnt identify the changes he would make, reminding the assembled media that to do so would negatively affect certain players on the current roster. "I think we need some little additions," said Gibbons. "You always try to identify where you need to upgrade. Just like some people saying you need to upgrade the manager. Thats the way it goes." Improved starting pitching, an every day second baseman and an upgrade at catcher are three areas general manager Alex Anthopoulos may try to address. In the meantime, the Blue Jays are back in town for a six-game home stand, three with the division-rival Yankees and, following an off day on Thursday, three against Kansas City. The recent 10-game road trip was ugly. The Jays posted a 2-8 record, including a four-game sweep at the hands of New York and a two-run ninth inning in Houston on Sunday to snatch victory from defeat and avoid the embarrassment of also being swept by the Astros. Still, Gibbons expects maximum effort for the remainder of the season. "Its easy when things go bad to tuck your tail and run, no question about it," said Gibbons. "Its easy to play when things are going good. Its tough to play when things are going bad, youre feeling the heat and everybodys breathing down your neck. But, youre a professional. Youre getting paid good money. People are still coming to watch and they expect a good effort." REYES ON JETERS RETURN Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter returned to the Yankees lineup on Monday. For nine seasons during Reyes tenure with the Mets, from 2003-2011, the two manned one of the games most demanding positions in, arguably, the games most demanding market. "I would say that hes one of my favourite players if hes not my favourite," said Reyes. "Just the way that he plays the game. He always gives 100-percent, thats good to see, he always comes to the ballpark with the right attitude to do anything he can to put his team in a position to win every single day." Reyes and Jeter exchange the odd text message. Still, its Jeters advice when Reyes was breaking in that Reyes remembers to this day. "He always told me one thing my first couple of years in the big leagues: keep your head up no matter what happens," said Reyes. "I learned that from Jeter and I appreciate that. I learned through my career, my first couple of years, if I didnt do too good with the bat Id take it to the field and make a lot of mistakes. But I say, just dont worry about it. Just have fun and enjoy the game because you have talent. Dont try to go too crazy because you know youre going to play everyday, youre going to have the opportunity there for you so just dont worry about it, have fun and do your job." With young players like Kevin Pillar and Ryan Goins getting their first tastes of major league action, Reyes considers it his responsibility to maintain a professional approach despite the lost season. "Its important because when I first came up to the big leagues I didnt know what it took just to belong here," said Reyes. "For me now that I have a couple of years in the big leagues its going to be important to talk to them. The second baseman, our new guy, he sits beside me in the dugout asking me questions about the pitching and stuff like that. Im going to be open to teaching the young guys. Through my career Ive been like that. When I played in New York and Miami too there were a lot of young guys. Ive always been open to helping them out." JENKINS GLAD TO BE BACK Chad Jenkins was back on a big league mound Saturday night, thankful for another opportunity he wasnt sure would come this season. "I was somehow getting Red Sox hitters out and then I turned the page and I dont think I could get my grandmother out," said Jenkins. "I kept thinking in my head what do I throw, what am I doing wrong? I tried to start to mechanically fix things and that was leading to 55 pitch sides. I never felt right, something was always bothering me in my shoulder and I guess the good lord was good enough to let me pull something else so I could sit down, take it easy and start over." Its been a weird season for Jenkins. A lat injury hampered him through spring training. By May he was in the big leagues and gave the Blue Jays three five-inning starts that month. His lone decision was a win in Boston on May 12. On May 31, he started what would become the longest game in Blue Jays history, a 4-3, 18-inning loss in San Diego. After the game, Jenkins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. The Jays needed fresh bullpen arms after a marathon game and Jenkins left with the understanding he would be recalled 10 days later. The recall didnt happen and Jenkins struggled with the Bisons. In five Triple-A appearances this season, Jenkins has a 7.48 ERA. "It was tough to swallow for me but at the end of the day it was a decision that was made for the team and I had to live with it and thats perfectly fine," he said. "I should have pitched better in Triple-A and I didnt. I have no one to blame but myself." Struggling with confidence to the point he had fallen out of love with the game, Jenkins got hurt. He couldnt get his right shoulder loose. It turned out to be the best thing to happen to him. He got healthy, pitched as far down the chain as the Gulf Coast League, and worked his way back – physically and mentally. "The second time with the rehab it kind of gave me my fire back for baseball," said Jenkins. "My arm finally got back to the way it was when I was fully healthy, how I felt last year at the end of the year and kind of just made me want to play again. "When my arm finally came back underneath me I kind of said, I want to play again, I want to pitch. I want to see if I can get people out." Air Max 1 Online Shop . Judging by his performance Saturday night, Cotto has plenty left in the tank. Cotto became the first Puerto Rican fighter to win world championships in four weight divisions, stopping Sergio Martinez in their WBC world middleweight title fight Saturday night. "It was a reflection of my hard work (for) 10, 11 weeks," Cotto said. Martinez didnt get off the stool when the bell rang for the 10th round. He did not speak to the media after the fight, as he was taken to a hospital as a precaution. "Miguel beat him from pillar to post," said Martinezs promoter, Lou DiBella. "Miguel Cotto is a great champion." Cotto improved to 39-4 and is 8-1 at Madison Square Garden. Martinez fell to 51-3-2. According to Todd duBoef, the President of Top Rank, the attendance was 21,090, and the gross gate was under $5 million. In the week leading up to the fight, Roach, Cottos trainer, said his pupil would be able to use his footwork to control the fight, and still possessed power even though he moved up in weight class. Cotto proved Roach right from the opening bell, knocking down Martinez twice in the first round with a flurry of body shots. As the fight progressed, Cotto pressured Martinez around the ring, and attacked when openings were presented. Cotto won every round, including a 10-6 first. "Miguel fought a really great fight," Roach said. "Thank you, Miguel, for making me look so good. "He really gave the guy a boxing lesson." Martinez forced Cotto to fight in the middle of the ring instead of on the ropes or in thee corners. Air Max 1 Cheap Online. But Cotto was able to land a variety of jabs and hooks. By the end of the eighth round, Martinez had swelling around his right eye. He also had a cut on his forehead due to a head-butt. Both cuts were glued shut. Cotto landed 54 per cent of his punches, and 54 per cent of his power punches. By comparison, Martinez connected on 31 per cent of his punches, and landed 60 of 157 power punches. "Martinez couldnt hurt him," Roach said. "Miguel listened to the game plan." The Cotto-Martinez fight was the main event of a nine-fight card. Marvin Sonsona (19-1-1) became the NABF featherweight champion with a 10-round split decision win over Wilfredo Vasquez Jr (23-4-1). "Hes a dirty, rotten fighter," Vasquez said. "When I pressured him, he held. He landed one good punch, the punch that knocked me down." Javier Maciel (29-3) won the USNBC super welterweight title, defeating Jorge Melendez (28-4-1) by split decision, and Andy Lee (32-2) stopped John Jackson (18-2) with a left hook in the fifth round. "I ran into a bad one," Jackson said. "What a lucky punch." Prior to the main card bouts, Felix Verdejo improved to 13-0 with a first-round technical knockout of Engelberto Valenzuela (9-2); and Jose Lopez (13-0) won an eight-round unanimous decision over Raul Hidalgo (21-11-0-1) to retain the WBC super bantam FECARBOX title. Jose Pedraza moved to 17-0 with a first-round technical knockout of Arturo Uruzquieta (15-6); and Willie Nelson improved to 22-1-1 with a first-round technical knockout of Darryl Cunningham (29-7). In his first professional bout, Jantory Ortiz stopped Elio Ruiz (1-5) in the first round. ' ' '
BOSTON -- Meryl Davis and Charlie White didnt have to think about their footwork and spins. Cheap Boston Bruins Jerseys . Those elements of their short dance were near-flawless, as is frequently the case with the world champions. They could plunge into telling the story of the selections from "My Fair Lady" at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Friday. Davis and White broke their own record with 80.69 points to open a big lead, well on their way to a sixth straight national title. "This is the first time we felt comfortable enough to let things happen naturally," Davis said. "This is the fifth time were competing the program. With this program, its all about being comfortable enough to let things happen naturally, and when you reach a point where it can be just fun, thats what we really enjoy about skating." Davis and White are more than seven points ahead of Madison Chock and Evan Bates, last years runners-up. On the final lift, they spun across the ice in a dizzying blur with the tails of Whites tuxedo flying behind, and she could look up to the crowd with eyes glowing. Coach Marina Zoueva had wanted them to skate to this music for several years. "As we have grown with the program, we fell in love with the program and what it means ... that exuberant joy," Davis said. For all of Davis and Whites accomplishments, they still needed to settle into their programs in this Olympic year, so that things will happen naturally when they get to Sochi. On Friday, they looked ready to try to take that one step up the podium from their silver medal showing at the Vancouver Games. "Because we put pressure on ourselves throughout our career, its kind of a healthy pressure," White said. "Its what gets us through the tough times, that we rely on each other." Chock and Bates posted a career-high 73.41, well above their 70.80 a year ago but still far behind Davis and White. Chock fell in practice Wednesday, crashing hard into the boards, but said she was fine other than a little soreness in her shoulders. Siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani were third with 68.00 in a repeat of the final standings in 2013. The top three teams make the Olympics. The free dance is Saturday. When the final notes of "Theres No Business Like Show Business" ended, Bates barked out, "Lets go!" Their coach told them before they took the ice, "Skate to win." "Thats good advice," Bates said. If its not, then things might really get out of hand.Looking in full command of an offence getting more dynamic by the week, Roethlisberger threw for 340 yards and six scores to set an NFL record for touchdown passes in consecutive games in a 43-23 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. Its unbelievable, Pittsburgh defensive end Cameron Heyward said. Hes on a run right now.One thats unprecedented in league history.A week after passing for a franchise-record six touchdowns against Indianapolis, Roethlisberger duplicated the feat to lead Pittsburgh (6-3) to its third consecutive win. The 12 touchdown passes over the last two games broke the mark of 11 set by Tom Flores for Oakland in the AFL in 1963 and matched by New Englands Tom Brady in 2007.You could have never sold me that during the week, even though he did it last week, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said. But he had a helluva game, and thats a reflection on us all. You have stop him in some certain situations. The Ravens (5-4) didnt come close. Bolstered by a pregame pep talk from Hall of Fame defensive lineman Joe Greene, whose No. 75 was retired at halftime, and a throwback performance from 36-year-old linebacker James Harrison, the Steelers ended a pivotal three-game homestand with arguably their most complete victory of a suddenly promising season.Antonio Brown caught 10 passes for 138 yards and a score. Rookie Martavis Bryant hauled in two scoring receptions and has five touchdowns in three games after spending the first six weeks of the season on the inactive list.Everybody has to wait for their opportunity, Bryant said. Its just when the opportunity presents itself whether you take advantage of it or not.Joe Flacco passed for 303 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, but was sacked four times as the Ravens were undone by a sloppy second quarter. A fumble by Lorenzo Taliaferro and an ill-advised throw by Flacco helped start a 22-point Pittsburgh run to end the first half.We set them up with two scoring situations, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said. When you put guys in that part of the field, they are going to have a chance to make some big plays. The renewal of one of the NFLs most physical rivalries traded its usual taut, low-scoring style for something decidedly more spectacular but no less physical. I think it was traditional Ravens-Steelers, Suggs said. Sometimes, you just play football, but sometimes things get a little excessive. The Ravens, playing without injured cornerback Jimmy Smith, simply couldnt keep up.Even when things went wrong, they went right for Pittsburgh. The Steelers tacked on a 2-point conversion following Wheatons score when punter Brad Wing made up for a botched hold by scrambling to his right and connecting with tight end Matt Spaeth to make it 22-10 at the break.Rather than sit on a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Steelers kept attacking. Roethlisberger found Brown for a 54-yard catch-and-run early in the fourth quarter to make it 29-10. Jacoby Jones responded with a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, but Roethlisberger then hit the 6-foot-4 Bryant for an 18-yard strike and capped another remarkable night with a lob to Spaeth with 1:51 remaining to set the record. That was such a big play for him, Roethlisberger said. He has been around a long time and puts a lot of dirty work in.There was plenty to go around as the Steelers avoided a season sweep. The Ravens drew three defensive flags on one play alone in the second quarter and the intensity only ratcheted up even when the score got out of hand.Suggs earned a 15-yard penalty for an ugly shot at Steelers running back LeGarrette Blounts knees. Teammate Elvis Dumervil picked up another penalty two plays later after smacking Bell.Roethlisberger took a shot to the jaw from linebacker Courtney Upshaw that left the quarterback comically stretching his face trying to check for damage. He could afford to smile after the Steelers bounced back from a rough start with sublime play from a quarterback at the very top of his game.I dont think any of us are surprised by anything he does, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of Roethlisberger.
