ST. Richard Sherman Super Bowl Jersey . LOUIS - When the St. Louis Rams sent the second pick of the 2012 draft to Washington, they probably couldnt imagine owning that same slot in 2014. Thanks to Washingtons free fall last year, they do as the final payout from the Robert Griffin III trade. This is their last chance to capitalize. After draft day dealings last year, the Rams (7-9) landed explosive receiver Tavon Austin and outside linebacker Alec Ogletree, who led the team in tackles. They also have the 13th pick. Ideally, the move would again be parlaying the prime pick into more choices. That might be harder to pull off given uncertainty at the top of this draft, so they could end up addressing needs on the offensive line and taking Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews. Two years ago, quarterback was a rare area of strength. Plus, the Redskins were desperate. Kyle Juszczyk Super Bowl Jersey . Vargas (8-3) allowed four singles and two walks while striking out five, allowing only two runners from a diluted Twins lineup to reach second base. Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson hit RBI singles in the second inning against Kevin Correia (4-10), and that was all Vargas needed. Dre Greenlaw Super Bowl Jersey . The 41-year-old Whitney has played in all 17 games and is third on the team with seven assists. He is third among active players with 1,278 games. Whitney was injured in a 5-2 loss to the Blackhawks on Saturday. Deebo Samuel Super Bowl Jersey. Dallas recalled Travis Morin from the Texas Stars of the AHL to take Whitneys spot. HOUSTON -- Chip Ganassi Racing added another Indianapolis 500 winner to its team Friday and dropped Honda for Chevrolet in an engine manufacturer switch that seemed to be in the works since the start of the season. Solomon Thomas Super Bowl Jersey . Both moves could have a ripple effect throughout the IndyCar paddock. KV Racing must now replace reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan, who turned down an offer to return to the team that rescued him just before the start of the 2011 season when Kanaan didnt have a ride. The KV extension didnt require the Brazilian to bring any sponsorship money to the team, but Kanaan chose instead to join Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon and Charlie Kimball at Ganassi, which next year will field cars for five of the last seven Indy 500 winners. "I wanted to be in the best teams with the best guys who have been beating me forever. I thought about it every single day," Kanaan said. "The first question that I asked Chip was, What do I have to bring? And he said, Your helmet. That was a big weight off of my shoulders." KV has its sights set on a handful of other drivers, but topping the wish list is James Hinchcliffe, who is tied with Dixon with a series-best three wins this season. KV is offering the same deal to Hinchcliffe, who wouldnt have to bring sponsorship money to a team for the first time in his career. Hinchcliffe, in his second season at Andretti Autosport, is still waiting to see what his current team can offer. Andretti failed to come up with an offer during its exclusive negotiating period as the team waited for sponsor GoDaddy to decide if it will continue its involvement in IndyCar, and GoDaddy representatives insist no decision has been made. Now team owner Michael Andretti has to make a choice: With Ganassis switch to Chevrolet on Friday, his team could conceivably be third on the priority list next season behind Penske Racing and Ganassi. Andretti acknowledged he has "an interesting decision to make" regarding sticking with Chevrolet or moving to Honda. "We are weighing both options in regard to an engine manufacturer for 2014 and working to determine what is best for the team," he said. For his part, Roger Penske welcomed longtime rival Ganassi into the mix, "He will be a strong team for Chevy, tell him welcome to the club," Penske said -- but immediately asked where Andretti will be in 2014. Ganassi and Chevrolet both said the deal was put together quickly, but it wasnt much of a surprise. Ganassi runs Chevrolets in NASCAR, and he was very critical of Honda at the start of the season. Ganassi grumbled at the season-opener in St. Pete that Honda didnt seem committed to winning, and accused the manufacturer of trying to solve problems by sitting around singing "Kumbaya." Ganassis frustration mounted as Chevrolet drivers won four of the first five IndyCar races, including three by Andretti drivers. Ganassis first victory didnt come until July 7, the 11th race of the season, when Dixon won at Pocono. But it was the first of three consecutive wins for Dixon, who used the stretch to climb back into the championship race, and a win at Mid-Ohio made it four straight for Ganassi and Honda. A victory by Simon Pagenaud at Baltimore on Sept. 1 was another win for Honda and the manufacturer race is evened out now at eight each. But Chevrolet won the Indianapolis 500 with Kanaan, and is leading the championship race with Penske driver Helio Castroneves leading Ganassis Dixon by 49 points with three races remaining. Honda thanked Ganassi for its four championships, three Indy 500s and 40 wins since 2006. "It may be worth noting that when our previous -- and also very successful -- association with the Ganassi organization in Championship Auto Racing Teams competition ended after the 1999 season, Honda went on to win 15 races over the next two seasons, including both the 2000 and 2001 drivers championship, and the 2001 manufacturers championship," said Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development. "While this partnership is coming to an end, Honda and Honda Performance Development remain committed to achieving even greater IndyCar success in the future with our continuing and new partner teams," he said. Next season, Chevy will have IndyCar heavyweights Penske and Ganassi under the same roof. "They have shown they have a great product, and we wanted to be a part of it," Ganassi said. "Its something for our team to consolidate our manufacturers and be part of a winning effort. Weve had some great races and years with Honda, but an opportunity came about to be with Chevrolet, and they showed a sincere effort in wanting us to be part of their program." Jason Verrett Super Bowl Jersey . Sunderland had the better of the opening exchanges, with Connor Wickham twice having claims for a penalty. The best chance of the half dropped to Sunderland with the final touch when Wes Brown planted a free header high into the Kop from Sebastian Larssons corner.Sunderland, sensing its chance, began the second half positively with Jordi Gomezs shot deflected just wide and Wickham volleying across goal and wide after Skrtel could only flick on Adam Johnsons corner.Sterling came to life again midway through the second half and Liam Bridcutt was booked for bringing him down just as he was about to burst into the area, but Jordan Henderson wasted the resulting free kick.Gerrard came on for Lallana, and his deep cross and Lamberts knockdown saw Coutinhos fierce volley blocked by Bridcutt.Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who had been relatively untroubled, had to be at full stretch to tip Gomezs shot behind, but it was Sterling who was suddenly the real threat and he could have had a penalty when another incisive run ended with him on the floor after a challenge from Brown. Attorney Alwyn Griebenow said Hewitt denies two charges of rape and one of sexual assault of girls he coached in South Africa decades ago. Walking with the aid of a stick, the 74-year-old Hewitt attended Boksburg Magistrates Court near Johannesburg and told the court he understood the charges. Hewitt was not asked to enter a plea. Griebenow said he would plead not guilty to all three charges at his trial. "Mr. Hewitt is relieved that we at least now have a trial date," Griebenow said. He said Hewitt denied having any sexual contact with the alleged victims or making any "sexual advances" toward them. Hewitt was focusing on "putting the record straight" at the trial, Griebenow added. In South Africa, a defendant is served with indictment papers before his case is sent to a higher court for trial. Hewitt was charged last year and will stand trial from Feb. 9 at South Gauteng High Court, Griebenow said. He is accused of raping a girl under the age of 16 in 1981, raping another girl under the age of 16 in 1982, and sexually assaulting a third girl under the age of 18 in 1994, all in South Africa. The first alleged offence is said to have occurred two years after Hewitt won the last of his 15 Grand Slam doubles and mixed doubles titles. Two of the alleged offences are said to have occurred in the city of Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, and one in the Sun City casino resort in northern South Africca. Juan Thornhill Jersey. At least one other woman in the United States has accused Hewitt of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. The Australian-born Hewitt won nine Grand Slam doubles and six mixed doubles titles in the 1960s and 1970s, playing occasionally with former stars Arthur Ashe and Billie Jean King. He also reached the semifinals of the mens singles at the Australian Open three times and won the Davis Cup with South Africa in 1974 after moving there to live. Hewitt was inducted into the Rhode Island-based Tennis Hall of Fame in 1992 as a master of the doubles craft. He was indefinitely suspended from the hall in 2012 and his legacy stripped from the institution after an investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse, during which he was interviewed by attorneys hired by the hall. Hewitt missed his earlier court dates in Boksburg citing ill health, but arrived for his hearing on Friday wearing a brown blazer and using a walking stick. His doctor said in court documents last year that Hewitt had a stroke in 2010, a heart attack in 2011, and suffered from anxiety attacks and depression among other health problems. Hewitt had to be asked twice in the courtroom if he understood the charges against him, South African newspaper The Star reported. One of the alleged victims, Suellen Sheehan, attended previous court hearings and was present again on Friday, according to The Star. The AP typically does not identify alleged victims of sexual abuse but Sheehan, who was a young player coached by Hewitt, has agreed to be identified by the AP. "Were finally in the home stretch," The Star quoted Sheehan as saying. ' ' '
(SportsNetwork. Adrian Colbert Super Bowl Jersey .com) - The LA Angels of Anaheim try to win their third straight series when they close out a three-game set with the Atlanta Braves Sunday night at Turner Field. Catch this game live on Sunday Night Baseball on TSN2 at 8pm et/5pm pt. The Angels dropped the opener of this series, 4-3, then rebounded with Saturdays 11-6 win in 13 innings to even the set. They scored five runs in the top of the 13th inning, as Mike Trout delivered a two-run double and Albert Pujols drove in two with a base hit. Kole Calhoun opened the scoring in the decisive frame with an RBI hit. Angels relief pitcher Cory Rasmus set the Braves down in order in the bottom of the 13th to preserve the win. Trout and Pujols both had big games and each ended with three hits, a home run and four RBI. Erick Aybar had four hits, two runs scored and knocked in a run for the Angels, who ended a two-game slide and won for the sixth time in eight tries. Garrett Richards started on the mound for Anaheim and struck out 10 batters across six shutout innings. After a shaky performance early on from the bullpen, Fernando Salas threw two scoreless innings of relief for the win. "We never quit, they never quit," said Trout. "Youve got to give them props. They scored four runs and put pressure on us. We kept battling, put ourselves in a good position and we won the game." Trout extended his hitting streak to nine games and 16 straight interleague contests. Angels manager Mike Scioscia was not with the team after attending the funeral of his former Dodger teammate and 1990 Cy Young winner Bob Welch. Bench coach Dino Ebel took his place. The Angels are 3 1/2 games behind Oakland for the AL West lead and will visit Cleveland next for four games. Hector Santiago gets the starting nod for the Angels Sunday and he is winless (0-6) in 10 games (8 starts) with a 4.15 ERA. Santiago pitched six shutout innings for a no-decision in a 2-1 win over Oakland on Tuesday and recorded eight strikeouts with one walk. Santiago, a left-hander, has never faced Atlanta and is 0-3 on the road. Atlanta has been inconsistent of late with defeats in seven of the last 11 games. David Hale was saddled with the loss for allowing five runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief and starting pitcher Gavin Floyd gave up four runs in the first 6 1/3 innings. The Braves were able to rally from a 5-0 hole and used a four-run bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game. Jason Heyward drove in a run, B.J. Upton plated two with a triple and Freddie Freeman stroked an RBI ground-rule double to the even the score. Josh Hamilton put the Angels back on top with a run- scoring hit in the 10th and Atlanta knotted the game at 6-6 on another RBI hit from Heyward, who showed no signs of a hand contusion suffered on Friday. Anaheim then exploded for five runs in the 13th. "We had our chances to get the win," said Braves catcher Gerald Laird. "It was an excellent effort coming back in the ninth inning. We battled tonight. Evan Gattis had three hits, including another home run, for the Braves, who are still tied with Washington atop the NL East standings. Gattis has homered in two straight games and has gone deep seven times since May 25. He is riding a career-best 14-game hitting streak. Atlanta will host Philadelphia next for three games. Set to take the mound for the Braves in Sundays rubber match will be Mike Minor, who is 2-4 with a 4.31 earned run average. Minor is winless (0-2) in his past four outings and was hammered at Colorado the last time out on Tuesday to the tune of eight runs and 11 hits in four innings. The left-handed Minor has never faced the Angels and is 1-4 in five starts at Turner Field. Nick Bosa Super Bowl Jersey . -- Justin Verlander took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and won his fourth straight decision, leading Detroit over the Kansas City Royals 9-4 Sunday and extending the Tigers winning streak to a season-high five games. Tom Rathman Super Bowl Jersey . The international synchronized skating competition takes place from January 31 - February 1, 2014, and features 39 teams from 10 countries, in senior, junior, and novice.HAMILTON, Ont. -- Another second-period collapse by the Hamilton Bulldogs ensured they would leave the weekend without a point in three games and their already faint playoff hopes made nearly impossible. David van der Gulik scored twice in just over three minutes of the second period as the Lake Erie Monsters handed the Bulldogs their third loss in as many days, 4-1 in the American Hockey League on Sunday. Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre was honest when asked to assess his teams situation. "At this point of the season, if you dont compete and you dont do it with desperate energy, you dont deserve to make the playoffs," he said. "Right now, weve dug ourselves a pretty big hole, and if weve stopped believing and weve quit, no ones going to benefit from that." Van der Gulik had three points, and Chad Hunwick and Michael Schumacher also scored for the Monsters (25-27-6). Calvin Pickard made 24 saves. Christian Thomas had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (25-28-5), who fell to last place in the AHLs Western Conference standings. They sit 11 points out of a playoff spot with just 18 games to play. Hamiltons Devan Dubnyk stopped 21 shots. Lefebvre sent a bold message to his players after losses on both Friday and Saturday, making captain and leading point scorer Martin St. Pierre a healthy scratch. "Im not happy with (St. Pierres) game," he said. "Ive been talking with him and sending him messages here and there. "Sometimes, as a coach, you have ways to get guys going, and hopefully he can rebound and get playing the way that he can." Two fighters who had met earlier this season renewed hostilities to open the game, as Hamiltons Nick Tarnasky and Lake Eries Guillaume Desbiens took part in a staged fight at the faceoff. Dubnyk looked confident in the early stages, twice denying the Monsters in close after giveaways by defender Morgan Ellis. His efforts kept Lake Erie off the scoreboard in the first period, and Hamiilton nearly opened the scoring just over 10 minutes in when Sven Andrighetto eluded coverage to slip into the low slot, but neither he nor Maxime Macenauer could get wrist shots past Pickard. Ronnie Lott Super Bowl Jersey. Hamilton finally opened the scoring at 15:55 of the first when Andrighetto slipped a pass into the high slot that set up Thomas for a crushing slapshot over Pickards shoulder. The goal was a welcome sight for the rookie, who admitted that his production of just 19 points in 39 games has not met his expectations. "It was big, because I havent scored in a while," he said. "Ive been having a slow season so far, but hopefully that gives me some confidence for the rest of it." The Bulldogs looked to build on their lead in the second when they were awarded a penalty shot when a broken stick was used to interrupt play. Andrighetto was selected to take it, but he couldnt solve Pickard. The missed opportunity proved costly when Lake Erie went to a power play, and van der Gulik scored his first of the period to level the game at a goal apiece at 16:06. He scored again just 3:06 later, when Andrew Agozzino sent a centring pass into the high slot, and van der Gulik connected with a low, one-time shot that clipped inside Dubnyks far post. Lefebvre singled out Andrighettos missed penalty shot as a turning point in yet another discouraging second period for the Bulldogs. "Our second periods have been nowhere to be found this year," he said. "We gain momentum in the first period and then we come out in the second and were flat." The Monsters added insurance with second power-play goal as van der Gulik threaded a pass from the point to Hunwick at the left circle. He had plenty of time to work with, and beat Dubnyk with a wrist shot over the shoulder at 9:11 of the third period. Schumacher added a fourth Lake Erie goal when he stole the puck from a Hamilton defender and shot through Dubnyks pads at 13:45 of the third. ' ' '
First-year coach Willie Desjardins wants consistency from the Vancouver Canucks, and theyve had a great deal of it against the Calgary Flames. Len Dawson Jersey . The Canucks go for a 10th straight victory over the Flames as they try to wrap up this five-game homestand above .500 on Saturday night. Listen to the game live on TSN Radio 1040 in Vancouver starting at 5pm pt. Chris Higgins returns to the Canucks line-up after missing the last game due to illness. Frank Corrado could make his season debut on defense, although there was no official confirmation after a light optional skate. Neither Canuck netminder took part in this mornings session but Ryan Miller is expected to make his second straight start in goal. Vancouver (23-13-3) is on a 5-6-2 stretch, which includes splitting eight games at home after giving up three unanswered goals in a 3-1 loss to Florida on Thursday. One thing I always want to be is consistent. I dont think theres any reason you cant play a certain way, Desjardins said. I dont think we were sharp the whole night. We dont seem to be able to be consistent. The Canucks certainly are against Calgary (21-18-3), winning nine straight meetings. Theyre also 13-1-1 in the last 15 home matchups, taking eight in a row after winning 3-2 on Christopher Tanevs goal 18 seconds into overtime Dec. 20. Daniel Sedin scored for just the second time in 12 games Thursday, but that stretch also includes nine assists with two coming against the Flames last month. The star left wing, who leads the team with 36 points, has 79 in 77 career regular-season meetings for his highest output against any opponent. Henrik Sedins 73 points in 80 games versus Calgary rank second in his career against any team, and hes compiled 15 of them in the past 11 matchups. Radim Vrbata has a goal in each of the two this season. Vrbata, though, had a three-game goal streak end Thursday after an illness forced him to miss Tuesdays 3-2 win over the New York Islanders. The Flames are opening a five-game road trip after losing the last three of a six-game homestand. They failed to finish that stretch above .500 after a see-saw 6-5 loss to Florida on Friday, falling for the 11th time in 15 tries (4-10-1). T.J. Brodie and Matt Stajan had two goals each against the Panthers after going a combined 30 games without one. Brodies eight goals on the season are a career high and double his previous mark set last season, when he had a personal-best 31 points. Hes three back of that mark in 2014-15, and among the NHLs highest scoring defensemen. The Flames Mark Giordano, who assisted on a goal by Brodie on Friday, is tied with Kevin Shattenkirk of St. Louis with 36 points for the most by a blueliner. Giordano, though, has two points in 11 career games at Vancouver, while Brodie has none in eight. Rookie Johnny Gaudreau, however, is already finding success against the Canucks, scoring two goals in three matchups after netting one Dec. 20. Gaudreau is tied with Jiri Hudler for the team lead with 13 goals, and he has five in the last four road games. Its unclear if Jonas Hiller will be back in net after making 29 saves Friday. Hes lost three straight games - two starts - with a 4.16 goals-against average, but has only started on back-to-back nights once. That could mean Joni Ortio getting his season debut after being recalled from Adirondack of the AHL on Thursday to replace the injured Karri Ramo, who has an upper-body injury. Ortio went 4-4-0 with a 2.52 GAA last season, making 12 saves in a 2-1 loss at Vancouver on March 8. Tony Richardson Jersey . "It feels great, but it feels like were not done yet," said Gaucher. "We came here to get the gold, not just to qualify so it feels like we still have a job to do right now. "We truly feel like were a team on the rise and were a force to be reckoned with in womens basketball. To continue what weve been doing in the last few years, we knew we couldnt just come here and not play our best and not qualify ... We feel like were good enough to be in the finals and thats what we came here to do." The Canadians will play Cuba for gold on Saturday. Canada opened up the contest with a late 12-0 run to lead 26-8 after the first 10 minutes of play. Puerto Rico outscored Canada 18-13 in the second quarter to cut into the lead, but the Canadians held a 39-26 advantage at halftime. Puerto Rico continued to apply pressure in the third, trimming the lead to single digits on two occasions. Dorian ODaniel Jersey. . Canada finished the third with a 10-1 stretch to go ahead 58-40, and closed-out the match by holding Puerto Rico to eight points, while scoring 15. Natalie Achonwa of Guelph, Ont., added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Canada, while Brampton, Ont., product Tamara Tatham tallied 10 points and seven rebounds as Canada out-rebounded Puerto Rico 49-23. "Us winning this game is almost a relief -- so much excitement -- but also a relief that we did qualify," Achonwa said. "To be able to get rid of the jitters of qualifying and now to play for the gold, it will be a great experience." Carla Cortijo was the top scorer for Puerto Rico with 22 points. Cuba, meanwhile, advanced to the final by upsetting Brazil 72-68 on Friday. Clenia Noblet scored 18 points for the Cuban squad while Leidys Oquendo added another 17. With 15 points, Adriana Pinto was Brazils top scorer. The top three teams from the tournament advance to the 2014 championship. Puerto Rico will face Brazil on Saturday for the bronze medal, and the final spot in Istanbul. Canada has not reached the final of the FIBA Americas since hosting an Olympic-qualifying edition of the competition in Hamilton in 1995. The Canadians went on to win gold in that tournament to earn a spot at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. ' ' '
NEW YORK, N. Joe Montana Super Bowl Jersey .Y. - Alex Rodriguez appears to be returning to the New York Yankees as a man without a position. Chase Headley agreed Monday to a $52 million, four-year contract and said the Yankees assured him the third-base job was his. That was a discussion that we had early on, Headley said during a conference call. I feel like the best position on the field for me is third base. Thats where I offer the most to a club. So it was important to me. That was something that was resolved fairly quickly. Coming off a season-long suspension for violations of baseballs drug agreement and labour contract, Rodriguez is owed $61 million over the final three seasons of his $275 million, 10-year deal. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said last month that if I signed or traded for a third baseman, that would be my third baseman. Rodriguez turns 40 on July 27. New York could shift him to designated hitter, relegate him to a backup role at third base and first or perhaps even seek trade offers. I played against him earlier in my career and said hello to him, and he said hello to me, Headley said. Im looking forward to the chance of playing with Alex, to be honest. Hes a tremendous player, and I dont see there being any friction, especially coming from my side. Rodriguez has not played a full season since 2007 because of leg injuries, operations on both hips and the suspension. He admitted in 2009 that he used performance-enhancing substances from 2001-03 while with Texas, but he repeatedly denied using PEDs while playing for the Yankees. Given a grant of immunity by federal prosecutors, Rodriguez told investigators he did use banned substances between late 2010 and October 2012 supplied by Anthony Bosch, according to Drug Enforcement Administration documents provided by the government to defence lawyers. Bosch owned the Biogenesis of America clinic in Coral Gables, Florida. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was not available for comment, and Rodriguez spokesman Ron Berkowitz said the three-time AL MVP declined comment. With Headley available to play third, the Yankees would be able to use Martin Prado at second. New York acquired Didi Gregorius from Arizona this month, and he is expected to platoon at shortstop with Brendan Ryan. Headley can earn $1 million annually in performance bonuses: $250,000 each for 475, 500, 525 and 550 plate appearances. The 30-year-old Headley was fifth in NL MVP voting in 2012 after hitting .286 with 31 homers and 115 RBIs for San Diego. He also won the Gold Glove at third base. Headley slumped to a .250 average, 13 homers and 50 RBIs in 2013. He was batting .229 with seven homers and 32 RBIs last season when the Padres traded him for rookie infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor league pitcher Rafael De Paula. He batted .262 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 191 at-bats for New York. Headley arrived in the Yankee Stadium dugout in the second inning on the night of the July 22 trade following a flight from Chicago, and his 14th-inning single at the stroke of midnight gave the Yankees a 2-1 win over Texas. On Sept. 4, he following Mark Teixeiras tying home run in the ninth off Koji Uehara with a winning drive deep into the right-field bleachers for a 5-4 victory over Boston. I didnt know how Id like playing in New York, just with all the other things that come with playing in New York outside of being on the lines, Headley said. But once you get here and you realize you well youre treated, how much fans care, how much the city cares, how well the Yankees family take care of you and your family, it was pretty obvious after a week of so that I was extremely lucky to get a chance to play in pinstripes. He said he turned down a larger offer in favour of New York. We left some money on the table to be where I wanted to be, he said. He had been playing with a herniated disk in his back last season and started to hit better after an epidural injection June 20. Obviously, there were some issues earlier in the season, but throughout the course of the season, the second half of the season at least, it didnt give me any issues, Headley said. Ahkello Witherspoon Super Bowl Jersey .Voegele will next play Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia, who saved 10 of 16 break points to defeat Annika Beck of Germany 7-6 (6), 6-4.Also, Marina Erakovic of New Zealand defeated eighth-seeded Caroline Garcia of France 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Garrett Celek Super Bowl Jersey . - Kyle Wood and Barclay Goodrow scored second period power-play goals to provide all of the scoring for the North Bay Battalion in a 2-0 victory over the Erie Otters in Ontario Hockey League action on Thursday.Following a pair of lopsided losses in San Jose to begin the Western Conference quarterfinals, the Los Angeles Kings will aim for a better showing in front of the home crowd Tuesday at the Staples Center. Down 2-0 in the series, the Kings host Game 3 against a Sharks team that simply dominated them in the first two meetings of the best-of-seven series at SAP Center. Los Angeles trailed 5-0 en route to a 6-3 loss in Game 1. On Sunday, the Kings actually led 2-0 before San Jose scored seven unanswered goals to post a 7-2 blowout win and take a two-game lead in the series. Although losing by wide margins in Games 1 and 2 did not look good, the Kings and Sharks both know this series is far from over. Last spring, L.A. managed to come back from down 2-0 to win its first-round series in six games against the St. Louis Blues. In the next round, the Kings won all four of their home tilts to outlast San Jose in seven games. Of course, the Sharks also went 3-0 at home in that series and hold home-ice advantage in the 2014 rematch. Including the playoffs, Los Angeles has won eight straight and 10 of its last 11 home games against the Sharks. If the Kings fail to extend that home streak tonight, the club will face a do-or-die Game 4 on home ice this Thursday. All told, The Kings went 23-14-4 on home ice during the regular season. San Jose was 22-15-4. Kings forward Justin Williams did his best to sum up his teams situation following Sundays setback. "It obviously stinks sitting here, talking after another lopsided loss," said Williams. "But they did what they set out to do and now its response time. Were going back to our arena. We won the first two in our arena last year and they came back and won the next two in theirs. So were looking to repeat that, but we need to start with one." Joe Pavelski collected a goal and two assists to lead the way in San Jooses Game 2 victory. Robbie Gould Super Bowl Jersey. Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture added a score and a helper each for the Sharks, who managed to score more in the first two games of this years series (13) than in all of last years seven-game loss to the Kings (10). Mike Brown, Raffi Torres, Joe Thornton and Justin Braun also recorded tallies, while Antti Niemi shook off a shaky first period to record a 24-save victory. "Its just been a couple of great nights for us offensively," Braun said. "Shored up a few things defensively, Niemi has bailed us out a few times. But you cant be that disappointed with that many goals in two games. Its been good so far at home." Jake Muzzin and Trevor Lewis provided first-period scores for the Kings, but L.A. failed to score over the final 50 minutes, 27 seconds of the game. "I dont really know if its one thing in particular," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Again, we gave up a lot of odd-man rushes. Even in the first (period) when we were up 2-0, they had a lot of good chances. We need all 20 guys to be on top of their game." Jonathan Quick was left in net for all seven goals on 40 shots. The Conn Smythe winner when L.A. won the Stanley Cup in 2012, Quick has a dreadful 7.22 goals against average and .824 save percentage in the first two games of this set. He was pulled from Game 1 midway through the third period, but Kings head coach Darryl Sutter didnt blame his goaltender for Sundays setback. "I thought he was fine tonight," Sutter said of Quick. "Hell tell you that he struggled in the first game." The 28-year-old Quick entered this postseason with a career playoff line of 29-21 with a 2.03 GAA and.929 save percentage. Quicks GAA now stands at 2.19 through 52 career playoff games and his save percentage has dipped to .924. ' ' '
EAST LANSING, Mich. Estevan Florial Jersey . -- Michigan State has dismissed Kenny Kaminski from its basketball program. Spartans coach Tom Izzo announced the move Monday, saying Kaminski could not live up to obligations despite multiple opportunities. Izzo suspended Kaminski twice last season for a total of four games and two exhibitions. Kaminski has not decided where he will transfer, according to a message he posted on his Twitter account. He made a Big Ten-best .494 per cent of 3-point attempts last year as a redshirt freshman. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward averaged 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 12.2 minutes in 31 games. Kaminski , who is from Medina, Ohio, had a chance to earn a lot more playing time next season in place of Adreian Payne, who was drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Hawks. Lou Gehrig Jersey .com) - Colorado may be ahead of the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference standings, but they are a club that the Avalanche may want to avoid in the playoffs. Paul ONeill Jersey . "After consultation with the Team USA medical staff and officials, it was determined that he should return to Winnipeg as a precaution due to his previous injury history," Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said Wednesday in a statement.ST. PAUL, Minn. - Colorado Avalanche defenceman Tyson Barrie will miss the rest of the first-round playoff series against Minnesota and more. Coach Patrick Roy said after the Wilds 1-0 overtime win on Monday that Barrie has a medial collateral ligament injury in his left knee and will need four to six weeks to recover. Barrie was hurt in the second period when Wild left wing Matt Cooke delivered a knee-on-knee hit on the open ice. Roy said he expressed confidence the league will discipline Cooke, who has a long history of suspensions, for the hit. The NHL Department of PPlayer Safety announced on Twitter that Cooke has been offered an in-person hearing for the kneeing but said details were to be determined. Bill Dickey Jersey. Roy called it the "play of the game," lamenting the loss of his teams best offensive defenceman. The coach said he thought the play warranted more punishment than Cookes two-minute minor penalty. "I think it wouldve broke their momentum. Theres a key moment in those games. And now we believe that the league will make the right call," Roy said. Barrie had 13 goals and 25 assists in the regular season. ' ' '

But the price tag to insure players against injury is too high for Hockey Canada, so the four-day camp starting Sunday in Calgary will consist of informational meetings about the Games in Sochi, Russia, and fostering team chemistry off the ice. "Not going on the ice isnt the end of the world," says Yzerman, the executive director of the national mens team. "Theres lot of other things that need to be done in preparation, logistically going through how were going to get there, where well stay, where family and friends may stay, a walkthrough of the venues, drug testing policy, a lot of informational things we need to go through and get out of the way. This is a good time to do it." Forty-seven players -- five goaltenders, 17 defencemen and 25 forwards -- are scheduled to arrive in Calgary on Sunday and head to Hockey Canadas headquarters at Canada Olympic Park on the citys west side. Canada can take three goaltenders and 22 skaters to Sochi. Among the summer camp invitees are 15 players who won Olympic gold in Vancouver in 2010, including Sidney Crosby. The Pittsburgh stars overtime goal lifted Canada to a 3-2 win over the U.S. in the final. Players invited to the same orientation camp in the summer of 2009 skated daily and finished with an intra-squad game that drew a sellout crowd to the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Saddledome is undergoing restoration from severe flooding in June, but thats not keeping the players off the ice next week, says Yzerman. "Its strictly insurance," he explains. "Its because of the high cost of insurance Hockey Canada is obligated to place on the players were not going to skate." Its up to each countrys federation to insure NHL players against injury at summer camps. Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson has said that would cost over $1 million for the invited 47, whose combined 2013-14 salaries total $259 million, according to capgeek.com. Strategy can still be communicated without skating, Yzerman adds. Head coach Mike Babcock and assistants Lindy Ruff, Claude Julien and Ken Hitchcock will have a video session with the players in Calgary. "Im sure well go over different stuff," says Pittsburgh Penguins forward and camp invitee James Neal. "Its a lot tougher when youre not on the ice, but were going there for a reason and Im sure it will help us," Its also crucial players get face time with the coaches, support staff and each other, Yzerman says. "The more time they can spend together, the more comfortable theyll be when they get to Sochi and thats a big part of it, particularly for the young players that havent been to NHL all-star games, havent been to Olympic camps before," Yzerman says. "Theyll walk into the (dressing) room and have spent time with Sidney Crosby before, theyve spent time with some of these veteran guys and theyll be much more comfortable around them." He says players will have time to golf, fish and go for dinner together, as well as work out while theyre in Calgary. NHL training camps start earlier this season because the league breaks Feb. 9-26 for the Winter Games. ' ' '
